I am so excited to be starting nursing school in college next year. I've wanted to be a nurse ever since I can remember, but I'm so nervous if I'll actually be a good nurse or not. What would your advice be for a nursing student or a new nurse in general? What would you tell your younger selves starting out in nursing? Any advice is appreciated.

Just do your best. If you don't know what to do or how to do something, ask first.

Keep clear in mind what has inspired you to become a nurse (although this inspiration is likely to evolve). The excitement that you have now may be dampened by multiple obstacles and stress, so you need to find some way to hold onto that sparkle. See my article From One Student to Another which gives general nursing school tips, study tips, and an idea for keeping your inspirations intact.
Good luck and congrats!

You have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Listen, listen, listen. You will learn a ton from your patients, instructors, other nurses, and people from other disciplines.
Be humble. No judgment, even if that's hard. You will build a better rapport and thus be better able to take care of your patients if they don't feel judged.
Learn how to safely push your boundaries. Challenge yourself, but don't get cocky and take on more than you can safely.
Ask questions, and never stop learning. Take this all with you as a nurse.
Good luck, and congrats on getting in!

Take time for yourself! This was the hardest lesson for me to learn, but I started getting burnt out after two months, so it was necessary.
Don't hold back. You may be unsure of yourself, especially in the beginning, you will be amazed at what you know after the first semester.
Be open, outspoken, and willing to do anything and everything in clinicals. They were my favorite. It becomes so much easier and second nature to learn the information to actually apply your knowledge.
Congratulations on this new challenge!
