WGU- Pre-license RN program

Nursing Students Western Governors

Hello,

I am interested in the pre license RN program. I was wondering if anyone is currently in the program in Dallas, Tx. I would like to know what hospital you do your clinical. I was told by a counselor from WGU that they use Lakepointe hospital. Is this true. How are the classes. Any help will help. Thank you.

I currently plan to finish A&P I which will be done mid May and then next fall I will take A&P II and Microbiology and in January, Chemistry and Dev Psych. I would like to take classes at Straighterline because they are self paced. However, I have to call UTA and find out if Straighterline's courses transfer just in case I cannot get into WGU for some reason - I don't think they will transfer though. I am worried about the TEAVs but plan on studying for it this summer. I haven't had a math course in at least 10 years, so I am planning to spend everyday over the summer working from the beginning through algebra. I have never been very strong at math, and in fact one of the reasons I chose UTA in the beginning was because they require the HESI exam which is much easier than the TEAVs. However, WGU is really my choice and I will probably just keep applying there until I get in. I need to talk to the adviser about that since I am not sure how many times you can apply. If I knew my chances of getting into WGU was guaranteed, I would go with Straighterline. However it is a big risk to take all these classes and they only transfer to WGU. My adviser said science GPA is a big factor getting into WGU along with TEAVs. So, taking accelerated courses at UTA makes it much harder to get an A in science, but straighterline may not transfer anywhere else. For now I am taking classes at UTA because taking all your course work there gives you a better chance of getting into their AP program. GOSH so many decisions!!! Truly, accelerated classes are a full time job!

I thought I would chime in since I had some info about this topic. You can apply to as many times as you want. I know that you can apply and if you dont get in, they ask you if you want to be considered for the next cohort. One thing that is not very promising about WGU is that once your in that does not guarantee that you are put into clinicals, you pretty much need to go through another process to try to get put into those. I find it ridiculous that once your accepted into the program you have to worry about getting into the clinicals. If you get into a school you shouldnt have to worry about getting clincal assignments, those should be automatic.

I am applying to the next cohort, which is January 2014, here in LA, Ca. I was wondering, how hard it was for you to get into the clinicals (or even the program itself).. I'm assuming that you are attending ! Since, I am applying to other brigde programs, I want to be able to have a guarantee that I'll start my clinicals if I do end up choosing WGU. Thanks so much!

SlicksGirl, I ended up going with another program. I had too many questions and concerns about the program. One of my main concerns is that I had seen the graduation pinning video which had 3 students and at the time, I found that one of the WGU grads was having a hard time finding a job, unfortunately that was a big red flag. I also did not like the idea of having to worry if I would get into clinicals since once your accepted into the program does not guarantee that. And lastly, the length of the program is way too long, so at the end all those concerns were too many to put aside. But please keep in mind this is all for the pre-licensure program, I can not speak for any other program. These were just my concerns.

I instead got into a 1 year 2nd BSN program that I have already started and love. God willing by this time next year I will have completed the program and have my 2nd bachelors.

Get a high Teas score! This is what makes you more competitive besides healthcare experience! Also apply to other programs too.

SilverLove Which program did you choose. I was looking through the posts here and saw this one.

Are you in California? I am in California. I wanted to attend due to the ability to keep my job and still go to school. I can't find any other program that I can do it with.
