I just really need some help in deciding which school maybe the ''right'' fit for me. western governors, grand canyon, or unversity of phoenix? im soo confused
My biggest issue is i live midwest and i am wondering if these schools will hinder my chances of getting a job because of the unfamiliarity of these schools over here in the midwest. alot of talk among colleagues in my area is ohio university online rn-bsn but i dont think the program is right for me only because no one from the school contacts you. the communication there is very poor. so thats a no go for me.
anywho....... if any would jus like to chime in and give their opinion of which school i should choose based on their own experience i would be greatful.

Did you ever decide which school to go with? I can't speak from experience since I'm in the same position, trying to pick somewhere to go for my RN to BSN. I was looking at GCU, WGU and ASU. I've pretty much settled on WGU for a few reasons, the cost, ability to accelerate program, and no DQ/posts or group projects required. Name recognition isn't much of a con for me, one of the administrators at my hospital is getting her MSN from there. From what I've heard from others, as long as the school is accredited and you have a BSN, name recognition for the college isn't a big deal when searching for jobs.
The main disadvantage I've found is that it's pass or fail, your gpa will be reflected as 3.0, which might not be high enough for competitive MSN programs. At this point though, I'm not sure I will be going for a MSN and if I do, I know there are MSN programs that will accept a BSN from WGU, they just might not be my top choices. For me, WGU's pros exceed the cons. I'm just waiting till they evaluate my transcripts, once I know how many extra classes I have to take, I'll decide for sure.
Hope your decision making process is going well!
kimlynn....... i sent you a p.m. hope you received it!
Got your message mso819, tried to message you back, but I'm relatively new here and not sure if I can send pm's yet. Best of luck in the school you decide on!
I received your mssg...and best of luck to you to! Thank u!

Are you working as an RN? WGU was my first choice, mostly for the price, but you have to be employed as an RN to be able to go there, and sadly, I am not I do enjoy GCU though. It's fast paced, so the classes seem to fly by, and I don't feel cheated in any way, if that makes sense. Yes, we have to do a lot of our own teaching, so to speak, but I have learned a lot because of it!

I loved WGU - finished at warp speed and for only about 3.5K. Can't beat that! But YMMV on how long it takes and how much it will cost. FWIW, I applied for three MSN programs after graduation and not one had an issue about my WGU degree. A more competitive school might, although I haven't heard of any problems at this time.
SunshineDaisy, I personally am working as an RN, not sure about the OP. That's a good point you make, and definitely a possible con for those who haven't starting working in that capacity. That's great that GCU is working so well for you, a few nurses on my unit have gone there or are currently in their program, and they're also very satisfied. If for some reason WGU doesn't work out, GCU will most likely be my second choice.
featherzRN, I have to admit I've read some of your other posts on WGU, they've been a big part of my decision to pursue their program! I'm hoping to achieve what you did and get the program done in six months, but if that doesn't work, twelve months and $7000 is still better than most programs time and money wise. That's very encouraging to hear that the MSN programs you've applied to haven't had an issue with the WGU degree, have you decided which one you're going with?
No i am not currently workin as a rn. I jus finished my ADN program end of november. I am awaiting my ATT. Im workin as an LPN. Aot of schools wont accept the credits from my ADN school becuz they dont hav ACEN(NLNAC) accredidation. And WGU is one of them. Alot of shools wont accept the credits. Thats why i have been being proactive in my search for an all online rn-bsn program. OhioU online will accept all my credits......but i dont want to go there and i live in ohio. Lol. GCU has already accepted 56 of my credits and im waiting on GCU to eval my LPN transcript to see if can get any more credits accepted. That way all i have to do is the core nursing classes. If thigs doesnt work out with GCU my last school on my list is AmeriTech. They already told me they will accept ALL my credits and the program is exactly 1yr in length. The director of the online program used to teach at Ohio State univ. and she has an excellent reputation here in this area plus one of my instructors teaches at ameritech also....the only "con" is they are in CANDIDACY status with ACEN(NLNAC). They dont have FULL accred yet. Im hoping all i have to tak is core nursing classes at GCU if so that is where i will be goin to school soon as i take and pass my boards.
No, I haven't decided. I may not do any of them. All of them are too pricey for something I honestly don't need. It's just a 'want' rather than a need. But it's nice to know I could get in! :) WGU also has an MSN program, but I'm witholding judgement on that one until I see how the new changes work out, which may take a year or so.
