Wexner Medical Center OR?

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hello everyone:

I am planning to relcate to Columbus in the next few months and have started to looking at potential employers. I am currently working in the OR, and am mainly interested in Wexner due to proximity to my new home, and I would like to stay in a teaching enviorment.

So my question is: Does anyone have any insight to Wexner as a employer? Is it a good place to work? Any information about the OR would also be greatly appreciated.

I am open to information about other hospitals in the area as well.

Thanks in advance!

Wexner = Ohio State hospital. They have the best benefits out of any of the area hospitals, and the pay is comparable. I don't work there, but I know of quite a few people who do and they all enjoy it there. OSU is unionized, so union dues/union benefits (depending on how you look at it). Parking is a bit difficult and you do have to pay for parking, but if it's close enough to your house you could always bus/bike/walk. Good luck!

Thank you notallwhowander, I appreciate the information!

I work at OSU (Wexner) and love it. Yes, you have to pay union dues but as a result, we are the highest paid hospital in Columbus and the superior benefits more than make up for it. It also includes membership to the ANA. I don't know much about the OR. I work on a med/surg unit and I absolutely love it. My unit, managers, and coworkers are all fantastic. OhioHealth is another great place to work so I would look there as well.

Thank you Hearnursing3.

I pay union dues now, so I am used to the unions and all their pros and cons.

The overall feedback on OSU has been positive. Its definitley at the top of my list.

I will look at OhioHealth too, thanks.

I too am looking to relocate to Ohio and would love to work in a teaching hospital. I'm very interested in Ohio State Medical Center and glad to hear that the Med/Surg floor is good. Could you tell me what the nurse to patient ratio is? That is a factor for me. Thanks for any info.

I too would love to relocate to Columbus and I am also very interested in Ohio State Medical Center. What is the starting pay for new grads? Are they currently hiring new grads?

ADN New Grad: $23.56/hr

BSN New Grad: $24.24/hr

Shift differential is $5.00/hr from 3pm-7am.

Weekend differential is $5.00/hr from 11pm Friday to 7am Moday

On Med/Surg, the ratio is usually 4:1... sometimes 5:1 (especially on nights) but always the easier patient load. I've never once felt completely overwhelmed by my patient load as other nurses always step up and help.

New grads are always hired, but only through the new grad residency program.
