If someone could write out the correct steps for wet to dry dressings that would be great! I am confused as to whether or not you need to use sterile gloves to clean the wound. I have heard that clean is sufficient, but it seems like you should clean with sterile. Also, with clean gloves you would have to place your gauze for cleaning in a seperate container with saline correct?
Thanks!

I just watched my patient's surgeon do this the other day. The surgeon didn't even put on gloves! She just pulled the dressing off and then pulled the packing out. She then looked at the gauze packing and stuffed it right back in the patient's wound! EEEKKKK!!!! I did the dressing change the next day and my instructor had be follow sterile technique.

I just watched a nurse pack an extremely deep and long wound, the orders from the doc were written out step by step. She did change gloves after taking all the stuff out and getting the wound to stop oozing since her gloves were covered in gunk, she put new gloves on but she never used sterile gloves. I wouldn't do it without gloves just for the ick factor alone LOL

No matter what seems right or what is done where, if this is for testing purposes go with the steps your instructor taught you.
