Hi! Is anyone else applying for Western U's MSN-E program? I hadn't seen a thread out there yet for fall 2017. I'm a little nervous about the cost of this program. What are your thoughts about the program, cost, structure, time of completion, etc?
Mlena1, I am not sure about the counselor but I would have to say no, unless you did hear that from someone. But like fewturenurse did, I asked them the same question and they said no. I was told by current students on preview day that quite a few students had difficulty finding a job (as if it was the majority), but on interview day was told it was only a select few. So, I am not sure about the difficulty and how many students it may apply to. I have the same question as futuremurselyfe about this as I have pondered that exact thing myself. Any thoughts?

Yup I could definitely see that being the only downfall of this program as I know many hospitals in the area these days only hire/prefer BSN candidates and they are already filtering through hundreds of applications. Depending on how Westerns affiliations play into this, this could actually prolong ones entire MSN road map to be longer than 3 years imo. But then again, i'm only thinking theoretically...i don't have any confirmation of this. If any people from previous cohorts can chime in, that would be great.
Exactly. Two current students gave us the tour on preview day, both of which claimed many of their peers did have difficulty but some were lucky to get one. The ones that did not pretty much stayed in a sort of intern role in hopes of getting a job while continuing the masters portion. Considering the hopsitals we do our rotations at will have plenty of other students in clinicals, they cannot keep them all. Like you said though, this is theoretical. I am going by what i was told, but what they said made a lot of sense considering who we would be competing with (bsn, adn, anyone with a degree).
I don't really see that being much of a problem. Just gotta work our butts off during clinicals and make ourselves known :) I asked that during my interview too and they said mostly everyone finds a job fairly quickly. When I went to Preview Day about a year ago, the student who gave my group the tour said she got her job immediately and most of her classmates had an easy time as well.
Has anyone heard anything from admissions yet? It's gotta be soon!

I haven't heard anything yet, but it feels like its been a while. Hopefully, we won't have to wait much longer..
Yes CJNPtoBE you are right, I feel like although some may have difficulty I have confidence that many students WILL find jobs fairly easy based on the reputation and how well Western prepares the students for success. Making ourselves known will not be an issue as long as we work hard at it.
And no I have not heard back yet! Waiting for that email.

I asked this specific question in my interview! I was told that only a very few have a difficult time finding a job but that's attributed to individual personality issues, not being out-competed by nurses with BSN's.
