Western University MSN-E Application Time!

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Well, I thought this day would never come, but the application period for Western U's MSN-E program starts a week from today!

I'm beyond nervous, as I've been working on this career change for over three years now. Every time I write a little of my personal statement I get a little shaky. This is so unlike me too, I'm usually cool as a cucumber.

Anyone else here planning to apply for 2012? Are you as nervous as I am?

Yes, I submitted my app the day it was available. I'm uber neurotic like that.

Have any of you gotten the email from NursingCAS about answering the question about graduate school? When I submitted my application, the instructions read that if you're applying to an entry-level program, you should answer "No" when asked if you are applying to grad school. Then this morning I got an email saying that I should change that answer to "Yes"! But when I go into the application to try and make the change, that entire section is grayed out! So frustrating!

I have an email into NursingCAS, but I foresee having to call and sort this out. Thus far, I've been less than impressed with NursingCAS.

I have the same problem. I'm going to call them to sort it out as well.

Does anyone know the length of Western's statement of purpose? Is it 1-3 pages?

When I talked with my admission counselor, she said that they generally wanted the statements to be about two pages long. The NursingCAS statement is only about 500 words.

At Preview Day they mentioned a 2 page goal statement is sufficiemt amd the NursingCAS statement is basically a mini version of that.

Question about the "Professional Experience," did any of you fill out that section as well? I would have thought uploading our Resume would suffice. I guess not?

Here's the response I got from NursingCAS regarding the change of designations I mentioned above. Makes sense, but they really don't make this clear in their initial email.

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for contacting customer service. As your application has already been

submitted to your designated programs, you will not be able to change that

section of your application. As you have already submitted it, it will be

processed and sent to the schools which you have designated on your

application.

It explicitly state in the secondary online application of Western Univ that the personal statement must be 3-pages, double-spaced, and 12 pt font.

I'm in the process of completing my application for Western Univ and I just want to double check that I'm filling out the "coursework" section correctly. I only attended one college where I received my BS degree. So when I fill out the "coursework" section I will start a session for Fall Sem of 2003 (lower division) and add the courses I took during that semester. Then add another session for J-term 2004 (short winter semester) and add the courses I took. Then add another session for Spring 2004 and add the courses I took. And so on..When I'm done I should have multiple sessions under that college? I got confused when NursingCAS's direction of one session per transcript and etc... Please let me know if I'm filling it correctly. Thanks.

BTW: Could I esubmit my NursingCAS application even though one of my letter of recomm is enroute to NursingCAS (spoke with the person who completed my letter of recomm and he mailed it yesterday)? Or do I have to wait that they receive all the documents (transcripts and letters of recomm). Please advice.

Lastly, you know the electronic PDF files that we have to fill out and email to EDS, when you enter info in the space provided it doesn't show all the characters that you typed out when you print to file via PDF. Did you guys encounter this? Or did anyone resort to filling it out by hand and scan it as PDF file? Please advise.

That's what I did, each school had multiple sessions which corresponded with the various quarters/semesters that I attended at that school. You're right, it's confusing!

I submitted my application as soon as I was completed with my portion of it, I did not wait until my letters of recommendation or my transcripts were received. Those have been posted since that time.

Yeah, the PDF wasn't very well formatted. I ended up hand writing the worksheet and scanning it.

Thanks for your help! I appreciate it. :)

I completed filling out my NursingCAS application and it's ready for e-submission, but there are 3 things I want to get a feedback before I actually e-submit it. Please see below:

1. Coursework Section- The school I attended went by semesters and every January we had a short 1-month semester called J-Term. Which term should I use Interim Semester or Winter Semester? Any suggestions?

2. Professional/Volunteer Experience Section- There is a question asking "number of weeks" worked or volunteer. Just want to clarify if it's asking the total weeks worked at that place. So if I worked 2 years at a hospital then I would indicate about 104 weeks (1 year= 52 weeks)?

3. Personal Statement- There is a section on the NursingCAS application regarding the personal statement and did anyone copy/paste their essay on it? I know that the secondary application (Western Univ.'s Online Application) has a section dedicated for it. Do we need to add it to both the NursingCAS and secondary application?

Thanks guys and gals in advance for your help (well if I do get any feedback :lol2::cool:)..

1. I would suggest "interim semester." When they go to review from your transcripts, they will understand.

2. That's what I did. Plus, it asks if that position is still current or has ended. They will understand. Don't forget your upload your resume to Western directly in the secondary application so they will be able to determine your term at the hospital.

3. Depends on how long your personal statement is. NursingCAS limits the size to 495 words. What I am working on is a summarized version of my essay to include in NursingCAS.

Does anyone know why it it says "Summer Term" for Western Univ. of Health Sciences on the designation list? I thought it was for Fall Term 2012 as indicated from the secondary application. I'm sure NursingCAS put it incorrectly on the designation list since it's the only track listed under Western Univ. of Health Sciences. I hope it's the same one.

Just curious, I just submitted my NursingCAS application today and it stated on their FAQs that it may take up to 5 weeks to complete the process after they receive all the required documents (i.e. transcripts and references). In my case NursingCAS already received all the required documents and if it takes 5 weeks for them to process my application then would that mean I would not be considered for admission if Western Univ doesn't receive it by Oct. 3?
