RN-BSN and timeline for graduate school for enrollment

Nursing Students Western Governors

At what point during the RN-BSN program did you know it was okay to go ahead and begin enrolling in graduate school? I'm hoping to receive a response from someone who finished earlier than expected, as well as traditional. Thanks!

It doesn't take long to to enroll in the graduate programs, I think I told them I wanted to enroll around the end of March/first part of April and I was able to have a May 1st start date. It's really easy to enroll if your a prior student/graduate. I had to do another background check and a new resume, and that was about it.

Do they check to ensure that you are working if you are a grad? That is my hangup. I hope to start the prelicensure BSN this summer, and would like to start an MSN when I am finished (while looking for a job). It can take quite awhile for people to find jobs in my area, so I would love to be able to use that time to work on the MSN. I would even be happy to volunteer again during that time.

I'm pretty sure one of the few requirements is to be working as an RN and your license is clear with nothing to stop you from working while your in school. I'm really not sure if they contacted my current employer or not, I'm guessing they didn't though. When I first started I had to give them a contact number for work, but even then I'm not sure they really checked.

That's what I am wondering, because I would like to be able to start the MSN while I am looking for work. It could take awhile in my area, but I could certainly work for free by volunteering.
