Western Carolina University ABSN. Questions and Concerns!

Published

Hi guys!

I have read so many submissions on Allnurses that have helped me immensely and I thought it might be time to reach out to the community I admire so much.

I am applying to an Accelerated BSN program here in Asheville, NC. I have been working on my pre-requisites while working full time at a home medical company. My application date is approaching and I take my TEAS exam a week from today (!!) I am finding that I am becoming anxious and worrying about the results of my TEAS, whether or not my application is good enough, and what I will do if I don't get into the program. Does anyone have any techniques for relaxing and handling anxiety?

Also, I am wondering if I am writing the correct things for my cover letter. Since it's an accelerated program, I want to find the right balance of personality but maintain a professional and mature voice in the letter. What sort of things do you include in a cover letter? I have a statement of purpose, how I found my interest in nursing, and how I came to understand the role of a hospital nurse (this was hinted at in the application). Any suggestions?

I was told a "Competitive" TEAS score is 87. Has anyone scored lower and gotten into a program? I am taking my practice test tomorrow so I should have a better idea of what I can score, but I've been practicing in the ATI book so I am a little familiar with the format. I think I am worried that my TEAS score isn't my strongest part to bring to the program. Although I know I can't have a perfect application, I still am concerned.

The breakdown of the program is:

Cumulative GPA (50%) - Mine is currently a 3.6

TEAS score (25%)

Resume/Cover Letter (10%)

Interview (15%)

Also, many people have told me that I need to "Stop analyzing" and "Relax" and "Not worry" but this is something I take very seriously, so it's not as easy as it sounds.

Ok, rant over. So glad this community exists. SO grateful for any responses!

Hello, I am currently applying to WCU's ABSN program for Fall 2018 entry. Does anyone know the format requirements for the cover letter (number of pages, font, etc.?) I would appreciate your help with this! Thanks!

@Macarro2 I'm not sure if you're still active on allnurses but if you happen to see this, I'd love to hear about your experience with the ABSN program.

Hello @green.tea! Did you ever end up applying for this program?

Specializes in CVRU.

I actually got in this program back in 2016 and graduated December 2017! It’s a great program with a lot of supportive faculty!

Hello @aorr10! Thank you for your response. It is nice to hear from someone who graduated recently about their experience. What were your stats like when applying to this program (TEAS score, last 60 credit hr GPA, pre-req GPA?) How was the interview process, do you recommend any tips for how to prepare for the interview? Also, how is the nature for the accelerated program? Were you able to work or is that impossible in this program and would you pick this path again?

I apologize for the amount of questions but I would really love to hear your responses and experience you had while applying and studying in this program. If you prefer me to email you, I can do that as well!
