West Coast University Spring 2018 BSN

U.S.A. California

Hello, I am starting this thread because I don't see any current threads for the 2018 spring start so I thought I'd make one.

I applied to WCU for the spring 2018 and was wait listed at number 5 and was granted acceptance into the BSN program. Everything has been smooth so far except my financial aid officer. Can't say I'm a fan of hers; anyways, I wanted to see if there were any classmates who would be joining me in their GE classes such as critical reasoning, pathophysiology, first year seminar?

It would be nice to make friends through out this 2 year process.

Hi! I'm finishing this semester up at my community college and am planning on transferring to WCU in the fall (hopefully the August start). I was wondering, how does applying for student loans work?? I don't want a co-signer. I have excellent credit, so there's that. Financial aid said they won't talk to me until I submit my transcripts. Any insight is appreciated!

futurenurselauren.....I am currently going through the process with financial aid and trying to get my loans situated. West Coast is very specific on going through the process before anyone will speak to you in another department. Once you turn in your transcripts, Financial Aid will contact you to come in. They will have an idea of what classes were accepted for transfer and what your balance is. I transferred all the general ed classes and will only be taking their required ones starting in August at the Ontario campus. I have a balance of $18k because my Cal Grant has not kicked in yet. Once it does, then my balance will be $8k to get a private loan. They referred me to a website called elmselect. This site has a number of Lenders that offer student loans. Both with and without cosigners. They told me once my all my finances are in order then I will be able to get my schedule for August. Basically they want to make sure they will get their money before you start school. Hope this helps.

Hey just wondering if you can give me an idea on how much monthly payments would be ? I'm very interested in starting up at the noho campus but am afraid of the monthly payments .

My co worker's son goes there and he said that the monthly payments are 1200. I know financial aid is an option but does it cover all 2 years? Ask about your options

Hi, I am planning to start this April or June at WCU. I have not decided yet as it depends on what classes transferred in and what class I still have to take and the schedule. However, they will not tell me exactly until my financial status is situated. Do you guys know if they give all of that class transfer/schedule information once they know you are approved for private student loan? or do you have to sign everything like terms and condition with the bank THEN they school will give you the class schedule information? How did that process go for you guys? I still have to possibly take First Year Seminar, College Math, Stats, Critical Reasoning, Pathophysiology, and GE Capstone. I was also wondering if anyone has taken those classes yet? If so, how was like? what was your experience? how is the intense level for either of those classes?

Hi! I was wondering if you already started your classes at West Coast

I have the same GE classes that I need to take before starting their nursing classes.

I'm going to start attending west coast Anaheim location this aug 20

Also when it comes to the loans

which loans did you guys apply too? and how long did it take to know if you guys were approved and how long did it take for the money to be sent to the school?

Hi guys ! I just want to get your input! Do you guys think it's too late for me to sign up for the spring period at west coast? I was wait listed for the nursing program at Sbvc and I honestly think no one would drop out from their position and I am really tired of waiting to get in to any nursing program ! I plan to make an appointment to take my hesi entrance exam with them tomorrow but I would just like another's opinion.

Hi everyone,

I am in my last term at West Coast so I can try my best to answer questions you guys may have about the process. I know when I first applied I had tons of questions as well :)

I never took a loan out for school sooo I was wondering does the school get the money directly? And how does it work when it comes to buying the supplies like the books and clinicals stuff? Does the school give us a card that has the money from the loan and we use it like a credit card??

Okay so I got lucky and received a significant grant. Unfortunately I don't think they offer that grant anymore so I don't have a ton of info on how they do their financial aid with new students.

I do know that for most students, you will need to pull out private loans from lenders like sallie Mae or college ave. Depending on your age, you will need a co-signer for these loans since they are a huge amount of money. From what I understand (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong) You can choose to cover the cost of supplies and books in with your loans, which they call book vouchers, or you can choose to pay for them out of pocket. I believe the money goes directly to the school from your lender, I don't think thy give you any sort of card. None of my friends who have private loans have ever mentioned a card. My supplies (uniform, clinical bag, ATI books) were included in my tuition. However, the "required texts" for each class were not included. These books can be upwards of $150 per book. Honestly I bought maybe 2 books my entire nursing program, you definitely don't need most of the ones that they say are necessary. If you're serious about saving some cash you can go to the campus library and read the books there for free. You can form study groups with friends who have the books, or rent books, etc.

I was approved for cal grants

Then rest are federal loans :/ but this is the last year I can get the federal plus loan

Which campus did you go too?? And did you work while in the broken

Federal loans are the better option as the interest rates are typically much lower than private loans. For example my fed loans have an average 4.5% interest while my friends Sallie Mae loans are 18%. So it's a pretty huge difference. With the federal loans you don't have to start paying until 6 months after graduation which allows you time to find a job. My advice would be to begin paying them now as it will stifle the interest that accrues and save you money in the long run.

I have worked 2 part time jobs (so full time hours, sometimes more) throughout the whole program. People will tell you to quit your job but I didn't think that was necessary. The program wasn't really that hard in my opinion, just time consuming.
