West Coast University June 2011

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello I am currently looking into starting at west coast university june 2011 at the anaheim campus. Was wondering if anyone else is considering starting in June? Would love to find some fellow classmates :). I go in on April 12th to talk with financial aid and discuss which loans to get. Has anyone picked out their loans yet and did you need a co-signer?? I'm hoping this is the right decision for me. I'm done waiting for community colleges and just want to start already! I know it's going to be expensive and I am prepared for that. Already have most of my pre-reqs transfered over and my ACT's were accepted. Anyone else in a similar situation? :) Feel free to PM me!

Hi! I thought about starting this April but after meeting with the financial aid counselor and seeing the 110k on paper. I freaked!!! I am now applying for community college and if I do not get in then I will be going this route. I also do not have a cosigner for the loans so it might be a problem for me. Not to mention a lot of nurses are having a difficult time find a job. These are my concerns and fears. Please feel free to comment or advise.

Thanks!

I just wanted to let you know, from a current student/guinea pig at this school, moving from the opposite end of california to attend this "university" was the biggest mistake I ever made. Ohhh you'll enjoy your unchallenging time at WCU on pre-reqs but the day you step foot into the actual nursing program the school tries to pass itself as.. you'll regret ever wanting to spend 130,000 at this school. Admins are a JOKE.. when YOU have a problem, it takes FOREVER for change but when you have 5 days before your payment is due, they send you a "courtesy reminder" that it is due SOON. instructors? Most of them are RUDE, likes to degrade YOU and make you cry and have no feelings about it whatsoever. SOME of the clinical instructors are really good but some will throw you under the bus. TRUST ME. if you ask a class of 50 students, 95% of us will recommend you NOT to go to this school unless you are truly desperate.

It's hell!! :crying2: :crying2:

Aw Piinkk I'msorry to hear you are not enjoying it! You seemed like such an advocate for the school at first...what happend?

I've been chatting with so many students who are in their 1st and 2nd year of clinicals and they all have really great things to say (I'm in Ontario). I have yet to run into someone who has had a bad experience... can you tell us a bit more about your experiences?

I was at first, everything was amazing from the classes to the instructors. but everything goes downhill once you start the nursing classes. the instructors dont do anything to help. half of them cant even teach, they read off the power points and barely share any stories from personal experience. grading system keeps changing, nothing is organized. but I am from the LA campus, i heard the other campuses are actually better and the instructors actually give you a review for your finals!! :crying2:

I was going to start in January of this year, I do have to say that I was having anxiety after signing the loan amount, but in the end, I didn't go because I didn't qualify fianancially. Otherwise, I would've gone there, Good luck!

Aww I hope things turn around for u

I am going to anaheim so I hope the professors are how you have heard. I know we do clinicals at a hospital I currently work at so hopefully can get extra experience from the doctors and nursing staff I know.

For those of you who are now attending WCU, did you need a co-signer?

Well I got the parent plus loan so I had to have my dad sign for that. I liked it better since it was a fix rate of 7.9% unlike the private loans. They can go any where from like 6% to 11%. I also got the federal subsidized and unsubsidized loans.

From what I hear from classmates just about everyone needed a co-signer, including myself. Just keep in mind you actually end up getting 2 loans. The first covers only pre-reqs and the nursing portion requires a 2nd, separate loan. Also what FA says is the loans can be frozen if your co-signer messes up their credit or gets into a large amount of debt too quickly. So make sure your co-signer is dependable.

I took a private loan only because the rate was significantly lower (about 3%) and once I have the 2nd loan and finish school they can be refinanced into one large consolidation loan. The only requirement for that was to make a monthly $25 payment starting immediately.
