West Coast University January 2016

Published

Hi everyone,

I plan to attend WCU January, 2016 even though I will be taking my Hesi August, 2015. Reason giving I work full time and have an one year old alone with bills. So what I want to do is get my household in place alone with my finances first. Do to the fact that this is a accelerated program I know there will be a lot of effort and dedication even with your GE classes and, I do not want to work while in school I plan to get my side business up and really running so I can give this program my all. I am looking for others in the same area as me that will be attending WCU January, 2016 because I would like to set up some type of study group and support system for each other. Also if you are already in the program and have tips for new students please share I take heed and love to learn new things.

-Thank you in advance.

Hi! Have you started the LVN to BSN program at WCU? Reason why I'm reaching out is because I'm planning on attending next year's cohort, but wanted to hear from those who were currently in the program.

Hello there. Yes, I am in the middle of my BSN program at WCU-OC. It has been a great experience so far. If you're willing to make a few sacrifices, work hard and tirelessly, then you'll be good to go in this program. I start CORE in October, just finishing up my last 2 classes this term. If you have any questions feel free to respond to my post. Good luck!

Thanks Shawn for the feedback. Just a few general questions in terms of transferring credits, the pre-reqs taken (if any) and ability to work per diem/part time. I'll be heading out there next month to take the HESI exam. A tad bit overwhelmed with what they presented us during the info meeting; just wanted a bit more clarity. Thanks again and hope your classes are going well!

So, about the pre req's. I didn't have any transferable credits so I literally started from the bottom. I have my LVN license, which will benefit me at the start of core nursing courses. But I've taken all 13 pre-req's at WCU. I don't think you'll have a problem transferring credits as long as they are still current and I believe it depends on the institution you completed the courses at. They're pretty flexible about that, as it is a very expensive program and they want to help their students as much as they can, financially. In terms of working and going to school, I work full time (3x12hrs/wk and every other weekend) and I'm managing a full time school schedule. It's all about your personal situation. I can't afford to switch to part time, and per diem isn't even an option for me lol. I've heard success stories from alumni who worked full time throughout the whole program, however, I've also heard stories entire students who had to either quit or switch to part time...but came out with their BSN sooooo make wise decisions when it comes to your employment. I want to be a testimony to incoming students because ANYTHING is possible. Hope this helps.
