Has anyone applied to, grad from, or have any info on WCTC nursing program? I'm thinking of applying there because I have all their pre-reqs completed and just wanted a little info about the program. Thanks.

You have to have Microbiology and application is due by April 1. You must have an NLN score composite of 40 (30 in math, eng, science) but they recommend a minimum of 90. NLN is 60% of the score and GPA is 40%. I don't know anything about the program specifically but I've taken all my prerequiste courses there. I just know that it's really competitive to get in.

I have heard great things about this program! I attend UWG and was at clinical with some students from here. All Georgia nursing programs are competitive!!!
That's true about the competition! It's probably better than a lot of schools because they only allow something like 30 students into Microbiology so not everyone can apply in April and its in a fairly rural area. Even so, I think we are all at our wit's end worrying about getting in! So far I have really enjoyed West Central and I can compain but I'm sure no school is perfect. Overall, I really like the students and the teachers so I think it must be as good other programs and probably better than most.
I also worry about clinicals because a friend of mine told me her's were in Rome and I don't want to drive to Rome frequently but I guess I'll take what I can get.
For me, the worrying about getting accepted was far worse than nursing school has been!! I hated it.Nursing school is stressful, but it is a different kind of stress. West Georgia is just around the corner. Good luck!

Hello, I will be starting WCTC fall 07 for registered nursing. Would someone please tell me what to expect the first quarter. Thanks.
Hello,
You should expect to eat, sleep, and breathe nursing (smile). Studying and working hard is the name of the game. You will have a lot of good instructors and a wonderful Nursing Director who will be willing to help when needed. Manage your time very well which is hard to do sometimes when you have family, children, or work. I recommend only working prn or part-time if you can. Further in the program, you might want to consider a Nurse Tech position at one of the local hospital which will build up your confidence. The first two classes are your basics and things should go smoothly as long as you keep up with the reading. Med Surg I and II will be the hardest of all, but you can make it and you will make it. One more thing, if you are use to getting A's and B's, you might be in for a wake-up call, so don't get discourage and beat yourself up. It has happen to the best of us going in with an A or B average, so it's expected. Well, good luck! I am in the second nursing class, we have 42 students still remaining, so hopefully it'll be 42 of us on December 15, 2007. Just remember, the program is still new so it will have it's ups and downs but in the end it's well worth it. Stay positive and motivated.......
Good Luck,

Thanks Bezue! I appreciate your reply. I was certain that the program would be difficult. I am anxious to get started though. Since they are making changes to the program, very little info is available about the upcoming quarter. I'm so excited and I've managed to make it through most of the summer with all this anticipation only a couple of months to go before classes start. Do clinicals start during the first quarter? How many days per week should I expect to attend clinicals? I see the classroom requirements for the fall but information for lab/clinicals are TBA. Any insight to your experience would be greatly appreciated.
