well, ex flight attendant actually

Published

That's it i have resigned from my job and i am getting ready for my new career, i am supposed to start my mental health nursing course in January.

Some people think i am doing the right thing as i have a degree in psychology, some think i am plain crazy to leave the airline industry for a nursing job! I hope i am doing the right thing. I just need to do something a bit more challenging that asking people "tea" or "coffee", or "chicken or beef"?

I know a lot of nurses actually go into the airline industry as airline like people coming from a nursing background.

The reality is the airline industry is not doing so well, working conditions are appaling and the job stability is just not there at all. At least, i would like to think, nurses rarely are out of jobs. Tell me i am right!!!

Anyway, i am one of yours now, well..soon!

Specializes in midwifery, ophthalmics, general practice.

welcome!

I think i would hate being a flight attendant ... but being a nurse is brilliant!

And I've never been out of a job!

I watched a program on PBS a few weeks ago on the beginning of the airline industry . I was surprised to learn that in the beginning all flight attendants were nurses--that's how they were able to convince people that airlines were safe and that people would be cared for if they became ill. Okay with that said, I must say I have never had a hard time finding a job in nursing.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

just wanted to say welcome and good luck in your new career :)

Hey there,

Just wanted to say that I have had the pleasure of working with two ex-flight attendants in the recent past and both of them have had excellent communication skills which were truely awe inspiring. I can understand that sometimes it must feel a lot like it is all "Chicken or Fish?" and "Buh-bye, buh-bye now," but I bet you will find that the communication skills that you developed in your time as a flight attendant will come in handy and give you an upper hand when you start your training.

Best of luck on your new career! :)

Congratulations on starting your training. Which university are you going to?

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

Hello and welcome to all nurses. Even in current climate I have never regreted doing my nurse training and no you will never not have a job. More importantly you will never be bored and if you are then you can just move on to another speciality, :)
