welcome

and

congratulations!

this is a place for folks planning to enter the yale gepn class in the fall...and our columbia etp friends, too!!!

there's gotta be more than me and bics??!!??

Yay! Finally got my financial aid--albeit through e-mail, but who cares. Pretty much the same, but I was glad to see I got max. amount of scholarship and perkins loan they have to offer (lI have a low EFC). I am deperately searching for scholarships, but there are not many available to people in our situation (GEPN/Direct entry) so I think I might just have to bite the bullet! Wow, I'm not worried, but I'm not gonna lie, the amount I'll take out in loans this coming year is more than double of what I took out during my entire undergraduate education!!!

But once again, I'm just pumped to get started!!!!

By the way, is any one already buying some of their supplies, e.g. steth., scrubs, etc. I only ask because I live at home right now, and I'm pretty sure if I start buying now my parents will shell out (they're still in the "i'm so proud of my daughter for getting into yale" mode--y'all with me?) but i don't want to buy the wrong things--do we have to purchase things through yale?

i'm glad you finally received your award e-letter, lol!

columbia sent an order form with their stuff, and so i was expecting some sort of form with the yale packet, but there was none! so i don't know how that will work! columbia made it nice and easy and put everything in one kit and you could buy a kit based on price and quality (ie; good, better, best kit and each went up a little in price)...

i know that the uniforms are just blue scrubs and a white lab coat and i heard that you can buy any style or brand that you like...(see the yale messageboards for details) i went to the website lauren suggested and the prices are really good, i would think you could start with that!

 lp

yeah they were kind of vague, I suppose we could ask Lauren on the yale site more directly, like what color blue and what not, and don't forget it is the LONG white lab coat :) as for starting to buy now, i am totally with you. My mom is actually buying me my stethoscope which is excellent because they are not cheap. She is an RN so she is so excited and wants to make sure I get a really good one, she is so cute. As for the rest yeah I would love to start buying now while I have some money.

Scarily I have decided not to work next year, at least first semseter. My job now (at Yale, research assistant) offered to keep me on as a casual employee so I can come in when I need money and have the time. As for second semester I was planning on looking into student nursing. Hey, they pay you to get experience, so why not? And Lauren mentioned that once you get licensed often times they will hire you as an RN for the rest of school. So that is great. Otherwise I was just going to do some crap jobs like refing lacrosse in the spring or something. But nothing official. I have always worked as I went to school (full time now as I get my masters in psych full time as well) so I kind of just wanted to be able to really get involved at least first semseter. But we will see what happens when I stop getting pay checks!

it should be official by now! acceptance letters were due to be postmarked by friday, march 3rd!!! is everyone attending?

;) lp

Yup!

Sent in my acceptance letter, and $600.00 bones! no turning back now!:lol2:

:nono: See. I didn't even mention the $600.00...I was trying not to think about it!

yup going too! i totally forgot about the $600 after signing the finanical aid form and sending that in too! that is why there is so much money in my bank account, they haven't cashed it yet! :smackingf

This is so weird--i totally feel like i should be doing something to prepare, but there isn't really anything to do! I want to move there right now and start classes next week! I am so pumped and it sucks to be sitting at home and doing nothing--i live with my parents :uhoh3:

bics I know what u mean! I keep looking at the Columbia thread and thinking awwwwwwwwww. LOL but then again, I wouldn't want to be in this rush of trying to move across the country in 2 months either! But I am soooo excited and I am trying to figure out the housing thing...I am thinking of staying in the graduate housing provided by Yale...

Hey Girls!

So if you did not get your letters, you will be getting a letter in the mail this week with instructions on what to buy before you come to New Haven! As well as a sample schedule for our first semester :) And a BUNCH more info... just a heads up!

I went out and bought my scrubs this weekend and ordered the other stuff they told us to online. I got orange clogs (hehe, they say any color) My mom is buying me my stethoscope and she is a nurse and gets 3 free lab coats a year, so she is giving me them! They aren't the most stylish, but you can't beat the price! Anyhow, I was just excited!

Also on April 1st there is a new message board starting for accepted students to get to know eachother, so obviously I will see you there!

Awww I'm so excited! I am ready to purchase a few things too, but thinking I should probably wait because I have enough stuff to lug all the way there already! I am currently trying to figure out how I am coming...do I rent a truck and move everything from here (everything is cheaper here where I live) or do I save the moving costs money and buy new stuff when I get there?? Decisions, decisions. I wish the cost of living was comparable! I am looking at the rent rates and am ready to cry!

as far as furniture, there is an IKEA right here...do you have a car you are bringing? I know cost of living seems high, but it is way lower than had you gone to columbia!!! :wink2: when my friend moves around (she does a lot) she ships a lot of her stuff to herself. That might not be a bad idea. if you want to ship it early I can give you my parent's address in Hamden (10 min from New Haven) some one is always home there and I am sure that they would not mind holding it until you get down here. I would offer my address but no one is ever home and I don't want your stuff sitting on my porch all day. And remember all the aid factors in cost of living here!
