welcome

and

congratulations!

this is a place for folks planning to enter the yale gepn class in the fall...and our columbia etp friends, too!!!

there's gotta be more than me and bics??!!??

Hey bics!

Columbia sent the financial aid packet to me before this newest housing packet...If you haven't gotten a financial aid packet by now, you should probably call!

As for Yale, yes it was the financial aid packet and FAFSA that were supposed to be turned in...I also turned in my W2s and taxes though, because I have been selected for "verification" every year at my undergraduate institution, and I figured I'd just send them in before they call asking!

I think we've lost karotte to UCSF...LOL

it look like we may have lost karotte indeed! as for your question about the scholarship, i don't remember exactly what they said, but i think i got more than what they quoted. although i may have just forgotten what they said. but i will be taking out a big chunk of money in private loans. the scholarship and federal loans didn't even cover the cost of tuition entirely. so be prepared!

I see you posting about me!

Yes, I received my acceptance letter to UCSF and will be starting there in June (oh my, that's soon!). The move from SoCal to SF isn't nearly as intimidating as a move to New Haven would have been, so that's a bit of a relief. Plus, I've always wanted to live in SF!

FYI, I received my Yale FinAid on Saturday. I think the scholarship was around $7500 and almost the entire rest of tuition was covered by subsidized and unsubsidized staffords, a pell grant and a nursing student loan. I think it did fall a bit short - that's where the private loans come in.

Good luck to you all!

I just got an e-mail from Yale's financial aid office that said it would take longer for them to process my 'stuff'. Seriously, I feel like this whole year has been a waiting game for me!

i finally received my financial aid packet. it was pretty much what they said it would be. the cost of the program is about $58,000. the maximum federal loans total $28,500 and the maximum scholarship award is $8570. the rest should be covered by private loans, which is about $21,000, but they do not list the private loans on your award letter like columbia does...

finally wearing my sweatshirt!

 lp

Hang in there bics! Good things come to those that wait, right?

Hmmm, lovingpecola, i think you got more in scholarships than me, jerk yale (haha, i hope they don't read that and revoke my admission). Did you work full time last year? Eh, at this point what is a little more money in private loans really? :wink2:

kel8ly,

i worked 3/4 time, but my efc was still zero, because i don't make much money! so, i have nothing listed in the "resources" box...which is kind of sad when you think about it...

:uhoh21: lp

ok, thanks, you just made me feel a lot better! my EFC was like 8,000, so it makes sense that you would get more in scholarships than me...whatever, next year I think we will all have nothing in the resources box, it should be negative! :uhoh3:

Do you plan on working while in the first year of the program? I do. I must continue to make money!

LP

Hey y'all--

do you know anything about TA positions at Yale, or in general? That might be interesting (and i think you make a pretty penny)!

I haven't seen anything about these or graduate assisstanceships anywhere! I didn't even get anything about work-study, which I thought was odd!
