Good morning!
It's currently 53 degrees which is much more manageable. Yesterday's cold wasn't a record breaker but the record but it was the coldest in 100 years for a November 11th. It's not unusual to be cold but it is this early.
Unexplained noises can be a bit nerve wracking, especially when you're alone. I heard one not too long ago and hours later noticed it was something falling off a shelf in the kitchen. I guess a ghost shoved it off, or it was hanging and took a while to finally fall off.
Yesterday after dropping Waffles off I came home and slept a what wound up being over two hours. Felt great all day but the result was I stayed up late and slept late today. Got up too late to go to my 9AM yoga class and I don't like the other offerings unless I want to go at 6:30 pm tonight which I don't.
Still off work and hope to boost my mood by accomplishing some housework. Will probably listen to a podcast or some music. I'm listening to a podcast about protein. Probably stuff I already know but there are some ideas out there to sort through...plant protein vs. animal protein. Some say to eat more protein as you age, others are saying that lower protein (along with calories) leads to longevity. Right now I'm just eating what I want.
My GI doc's office said they wanted to switch my follow up to today which was the original day but they said he had PTO but he changed his PTO to next week. It's a tele health between 7pm and 10 pm. Really? I like the man well enough but he does keep strange hours. I have his personal cell phone and once texted him during business hours about symptoms and he texted me back at 10pm. It's okay. I'm off and even if it's 10pm I'll be awake. I'm not sure how to say what's going on or what he can do about it. I have good days and bad days, and half good and half bad. Guess I could just say that.
I stopped reading one book, which I don't like doing. It was about a man seriously dissecting his grief over losing his boyfriend he was in love with, even though he had a husband (it was an open marriage). It was extremely well written but got a little tired of the constant analysis of his grief. I have my next book which seems to be interesting, written by a Nigerian diaspora non-binary writer about a character in Lagos. Unfortunately, I'm not getting some of the slang and writing. Hopefully I can get through it. I don't like paying good money for a book and not reading it.
Speaking of spending money I accidentally bought a vinyl record on my wish list. I put them on there waiting on the price to drop (which sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't) thinking I was getting something else. It was a record by Jazz Artist Samara Joy which is good but cost $27. I kept it and will order the one I really wanted which is $20. Most of us are old enough to remember when a vinyl album cost maybe $4.00.
I checked my work email and saw an email we met some goals we are getting a $1,000 bonus (taxes will be taken out) which prompted the spurge on the albums. I also have some dates and times for my statement regarding the law suit.
Waffles is no worse for the wear from having anesthesia yesterday. They pulled on tooth and she's on antibiotics for that. She woke me precisely at 6AM, her established breakfast time, so at least she's adjusted to the time change and not waking me up too early.
Hello all!
I have slept well the last few nights, who knows why?? I'll take it, though I don't understand it and can't always duplicate it!
Thursday through Monday we stayed at an old two-story motel in Carlsbad for a bluegrass festival, The South State 48. Had a lot of great jams, lots of chatting with friends old and new. The motel layout was like a figure eight, with the pool area inside one part of the eight, and a grassy area with a gazebo in the second inner part of the eight. We were allowed jamming up till 10pm in the pool area (there were some grassy areas there too), and the jamming was 24/7 in the other, grassy gazebo area! Oh my, did ppl jam! There were probably eight jams going in that area, at the height of the noise -- and the word cacophony sprang to my mind more than once! A couple of the bluegrass associations had booths out, selling merchandise and memberships, plus one had an easy-up over a booth selling beer. Yah, THAT was popular!
Dh got to play his bass a lot, and I got in on a lot of jams too. We met some full-time musicians from Washington D.C. and Baltimore area, they were fun to play with! Eddie played mandolin and Matthew played dobro.
Anyway, we had a really good time! Drove home Monday and unpacked. Tuesday we had band practice in the afternoon, preparing Christmas programs (we have two upcoming appointments to play, in December). That was fun, we have some new arrangements we are working on.
Dh and I have jury duty next week: he on Tuesday, mine is on Thursday. We will have band practice on Monday.
That's it for now! Just waiting for the rain to show up -- supposed to be Friday through the weekend, ugh! Dapper Day is this Sunday at Disneyland, it would be sad if they had rain during the day! We won't be going, as our annual passes have that Sunday as a blocked day, for whatever reason. We were able to go last year but not this year, NOPE. Bad planning, in our opinion. I think only the top-tier Magic Pass ticket has that Sunday available, but none of the lower-tier Passes do. Very sad. I'm not about to pay more money for an additional day. We dress dapper whenever we go, that will have to do us for now.
It is good to see the cats again, and I think they are happy to see us/missed us when we were gone. 🙂
Have a good day/evening!
Good afternoon. It's gray & sprinkling outside. Yesterday was quite nice, and apparently the Northern Lights put on quite a show last night, but I was snug in bed. We spent the morning at the propagating area at the demo garden. The person who used to manage the area has moved, and the people who are taking her place are struggling. There are various plants scattered about, on tables, under tables, in the green house, under the trees. And most plants are in 1 gallon pots, wet, heavy, and a lot of work to move. But it will be worth it when sale time comes to know what you have and where it is! It's like having a hospital supply room, with angiocaths here and there, mixed with 4 X 4s and gloves and catheter kits.
We stopped for lunch at a little local diner. We try to avoid chain restaurants. I was going to drop a check at the food bank but forgot the checkbook. One of the gals at the demo garden has been on furlough and is pretty happy to be getting back to work and drawing a check.
Yes, I concur about driving close to those concrete barriers. In the Seattle area there is lots of construction, but they still drive really fast down those narrow lanes. And I try not to drive after dark. The bright lights have always bothered me, and it's worse at my age.
Don't like driving after dark, ESPECIALLY HERE, because I don't know the area as well as I have in other places; these roads don't make sense, and don't lead to where you expect they should, and after dark, EVERYTHING looks different! But more than after dark is after dark when it is RAINING! So basically I go to the same places I go to all the time, and have no interest in exploring any further! I used to drive, wander, and get lost on purpose to be able to know how all the parts of town fit together. Not here! And I have to say that the maps online, like MapQuest, are USELESS because they mostly just pieces of labeled major roads, like an Interstate, and the rest of the "map" is just gray lines without names on them, and a big red balloon-looking thing showing you where something is. Triple A's maps were always so wonderful, but I can't get 'em on line....or at least I haven't found 'em. Anyway, I don't really care anymore, but it does hurt my feelings because I USED TO HAVE such an excellent sense of direction. (The times, they are a'changin')
BiL will be coming over tomorrow to replace the remote control of the recliner, which he said had 5 wires, 4 of which were broken completely apart. I have Nannie sitting with her feet up on a wicker footstool with a thin pillow on top of it.
Was warmer today than yesterday, and I think it is supposed to be warm through the weekend. Who cares? A day is a day is a day, anymore.
Friday I go get my Life Line screening tests (5 of 'em). Then next Tuesday I go have my right eye assessed for cataract surgery. Don't know when the surgery will be yet, but SiL and BiL are going to have to pick it up with assisting me for at least several days afterwards. Then I have to arrange an appt with the lawyer to re-do my will and power of attorney, both financial and medical. Being a grown-up sometimes is SO irritating!
That's all the news that is fit to print for now.....

Tweety that does seem very cold for Florida
Stars that is strange that there was no sign of what caused the noise maybe something outside?
Ado I find driving through construction zones stressful too
Work was quite good yesterday, busy enough but never too busy, despite some long phone calls, and nothing unexpected
After work did the grocery shopping and stopped at the library and exercised. Have a little more shopping to do for some stuff I didn't find but I can do that later in the week
Today nothing unusual going on during work. After work have a Zoom meeting with a group I'm part of, but other than that and exercise it should be a quiet evening
Will be a bit warmer today, in the low 50s
