Today it is sunny and 40 degrees. Friday it will become QUITE a bit colder.....mid 30's, and MAYBE are going to experience a little Winter weather.
SiL came and gave Nannie her bath and breakfast and then took her over to "Care-A-Lot", which I will continue to refer to as the senior daycare center. We STILL have not heard a word about the larger place where she has been on a waiting list for, for just about forever. SiL just texted me that she will go pick her up later and take her to have her nails done. Good! And I haven't had my nails done yet; maybe I'll go do that tomorrow which is Chatty CG's last day with Nannie. (my boo-boo lip is pooched-out in a pout!) Daycare is $85/day; Chatty Cg is $75/day. But daycare gets Nannie out of the house, which is nice for me. It has also turned her into a monster who wants to go out all the time! Yesterday, after I moved my car from the area by the back door where we load and unload Nannie, and parked under the carport, when I came back in, Nannie was leaning forward in her chair, craning her neck to look out in the backyard, and she said "Was that car that just came by here....is that someone coming to take me out?" I thought, "Don't I wish!", but told her it was just me parking my car, and she was quite disappointed, It is so sad she barely remembers anything for less than 10 seconds now, like what just happened never did happen.
Okay, it is almost 11 AM. I didn't sleep well last night, woke up every hour; got two solid hours before SiL arrived, and tried to go back to sleep after they left, to no avail. I think I will now get dressed, go down to the kitchen and make myself a grilled-cheese sandwich as fuel to propel me forward so I can do something helpful for myself, like put away my clean clothes, vacuum my room, and gather trash from all the wastebaskets. Remember the song "Life is But a Dream"? Somebody PLEEEEZE wake me up!
Last night I was tolerating Nannie watching reruns of House Hunters on HGTV; she doesn't remember seeing any of them. I must've done 2 dozen word-search puzzles just to pass the time.
Good morning!
Took my car in for routine maintenance and it was pricey. Ran into a huge traffic jam on the way home from the interstate which happens often. Stopped by the grocery store and will cook some and most likely stay in.
It's warmed up to 52 but was in the 40's most of the morning. I walked from the dealership to McD's for breakfast and was glad it wasn't windy.
I did actually get some stuff done: vac'd the den, the kitchen, front hall, stairs to the third level, and half of my room. I HAD TO vacuum the carpet by the bedside because.......ugh, I spilled half a bag of pistachios, and then I spilled a little can of cashews! I put the little can beside my left hip, which is kinda stoopit, as that's the side I get out of the bed on, and if I jump up for something and don't remember it's there....NUTZ everywhere! And the air turns blue with all my cussing. I found a few of the meds I'd dropped, and I FOUND MY BRAIN! It had fallen off the head of the bed and was leaned up against the wall under the bed. If I hadn't spilled the beans (so to speak) I might not have found the notebook, as it had sort of tucked itself away behind platform-bed's legs, which are 4x4's, because when I asked my son-in-law to make me a platform bed, (and since I was 40 lbs heavier at the time,) I told him I did not want the platform to crack or anything; ie it has to be VERY STURDY and last a long time! Hence the 4x4 legs. I still will have to ask BiL to saw 1 + 1/2 inches off all four of the platforms' "feet" because with the new mattress, which is thick and 'tall' , and I have to hike myself up onto the bed. My feet don't reach the floor if I sit on the side of the bed, and if I'm not hiked back enough I start to slide off the edge of the bed.
Oh crap, SiL just drove in with Nannie. *sigh*
No Stars, I heard it when you spilled: "AWWWWW, NUTS!" You got a lot done while Nannie was on her outing. Maybe your BiL would saw those bed platform legs down for ya?
It was windy all through the night but now (3:30pm) seems to have died down -- which will be great for the firefighters! We are keeping tabs on the two worst of the fires, the Palisades and the Eaton Canyon fires. We have taken walks in Eaton Cyn, to a little waterfall deep within the canyon, passing a few cabins that were built probably 100+ years ago, on the creek there. Years ago, they only received deliveries (mail, etc) from a mule train. Anyway, we are praying for the firefighters and hoping the fires are contained soon, without further damages, without injuries/loss of life.
Dh came down with a cold last night. He is napping today. I opened a can of chicken noodle soup for him, for lunch (his eyes lit up when I suggested it; he didn't want to go to the trouble of fixing his usual burrito, a heavier meal than the soup). I found some low-carb whole wheat tortillas at the grocery store yesterday, and had a little soup myself and one of the tortillas with some string cheese wrapped in it. It was a light but good lunch. All dh wanted was the soup.
So, the house is quiet (dh asleep), and no longer being buffeted by the wind.
Have a good evening, stay warm and safe!
SiL brought some supper for us when she came back with Nannie; homemade mixed fresh steamed vegetables and some rib-eye steak that was really quite tough.
Maybe you had to be here but it was kinda funny.......We were watching TV while we ate off of trays. I looked over at Nannie and saw her with spoon loaded with sweet potato and she was dipping it in her glass of cranberry juice. I said, "What are you doing?!?" and she looked over at me and said, "I'm eating my supper."
Whoa! I guess MAYBE it was a stupid kind of question. I said "Never mind." It always surprises me how much she is changing by the week, days, and hours. I wonder how long I will be doing this? I'd like to have my own life back. I guess I say that a lot.
I have tomorrow off from 1 PM to 6 PM, it is Chatty CG's last day. SiL wants to let her keep coming on Thursdays but so far BiL thinks it would be too big an expense.
In two hours .....well, no, in LESS than two hours I will be putting Nannie to bed. It is just after 8 PM and she has already started to conk out. Being at Care Center all day, she does not have any of her usual afternoon nap time. Sometime between now and 9 PM I will go get her to the bathroom to change into her sleeping clothes. She always asks me, when I take her daytime clothes off her, why she can't wear her big sweaters or jackets to bed. I told her the jackets are "Dry Clean Only" and she doesn't want to have to pay for dry cleaning several times a week! She is also afraid her favorite clothes are going to disappear somehow, but when she asks me where I am going with them, I tell her I always hang her clothes up when I take them off her, and they will be right there, hanging up in the bedroom while she sleeps. And she always has her 4 pairs of shoes lined up at her bedside. SMH.
There is a distinct ABYSS of social intercourse or mental/intelligent conversation with her. Good thing I at least enjoy my own company!
Hi. Overcast day. I had big excitement when my little dog slipped out of her leash, but ds was just getting home for his lunch break and she ran to him.
I made wraps cut into pinwheels for the potluck tomorrow. One is turkey cranberry and the other is veggie. And I picked up dog waste in the backyard. So exciting.
we tied for second place in trivia last night. I able to recognize all 7 of the famous author signatures, even Kurt Vonnegut.
I've been looking at the updates on the fires in California. To me, that is scarier than hurricanes.

Work was slow as expected yesterday, had time in the afternoon to help someone else and it was still a fairly quiet day. We'll see if this continues
After work was pretty ordinary, just grocery shopping and exercise.
Today should be pretty ordinary too. Have to follow up with the garage to come up with a date to service the car. Also have to start working on my 2025 to do list some more
Will be about the same as yesterday, up to the mid 20s, no snow expected
