Tweety hope they can find a dose or a solution that works for you. I remember it took some time to see the result from the Remeron
NJ22 that's cool that you have a bird feeder heater. My dad used to have a heater for the birdbath
Stars here's hoping you can get that tree down soon without too much expense
Ado I agree, in person is better
Work was better yesterday, despite getting a new case. Now they want me to get a CT license as well, guess they're getting a lot of referrals from that state. It was something we had discussed before. Thankfully the process seems pretty easy.
After work had our church dining out via Zoom, was nice to see people but awkward to do via Zoom. Next month we'll do it in person.
Today have grocery shopping and choir practice after work
Going to be in the 20s the next few days, might get a little snow
Clear and still cold here, but at least the wind has died down. Low of 20 last night, may get up to 35 this afternoon. Brr. I will take cold and dry over sleet any day!
Tweety, I am sorry that the Trazodone is not working for you. You seem to have a caring provider, so hopefully a solution can be found. Not sleeping is miserable.
Hmm, dining out on Zoom? How does that work? You get take out and eat on camera? I have a weekly meeting at lunch on Mondays, and I am self conscious about eating on camera. Yes, I think in person will be better, just my 2 cents.
Stars, I have my fingers and toes crossed that the tree trimming works out. I agree, will be much better to do prevention rather than replacement.
Dinner Roll Recipe, from The Complete Book of Breads by Bernard Clayton, Jr.
Makes 2 to 3 dozen pieces
1/2 c. potato, mashed or prepared "instant"
1 package yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 egg, room temperature
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk, room temperature
1/3 c. butter or margarine, softened
1/2 t. salt
3 to 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, approx. ( I use bread flour)
To brush: 4 T. butter or margarine (I don't use this)
Prepare potato, whether from fresh or instant (I use instant)
In a small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water, stir and set aside.
In a large bowl, blend egg and sugar. Add potato, milk butter and salt. Mix together, add yeast and 2 cups of flour. Beat 1 minute, or 100 strokes. Gradually stir in additional flour, 1/2 c. at a time, first by wooden spoon, and by hand, as dough gets firm. (I use my mixer and dough hook). Work the flour into the moist ball until it cleans the side of the bowl and loses much of its stickiness.
Turn the soft dough onto a floured work surface and knead until it becomes smooth and velvety.
Return the dough to the bowl (I wash the bowl and grease it with butter) and turn once so the top is greased. Stretch plastic wrap over the bowl and let rise in a warm place until doubled.
Punch down and shape as desired. I form it into pan rolls: divide the dough into 2 pieces. Roll into a 12 inch rope. Cut into 12 pieces. Shape each into a ball,; tuck under the cut edges to draw the surface of the dough tight. Place in a greased pan. (The original recipe says to brush with melted butter, but I skip this.)
Cover with plastic wrap again and let rise, until doubled. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake until golden brown. You can brush with melted butter again, if desired.
Good Afternoon~
The tree guys are still across the street topping the second tree and loading branches, etc. Hubby spoke w/ the head guy who'd come over and asked him if he'd decided about our tree yet. Hubby said he was still looking for a way to get $$$. Yesterday the guy had said he'd do it for $1500, but today he told hubby, "If I have to come back tomorrow, it'll cost $2,000." HUH! Kind of a pushy-sales tactic. ("It's now or never...") Hubby asked what about if they just laid the tree down across the back yard? The answer was, "Well, that's still a lot of work. I'd do it for $1200." The neighbor who offered to cut up the tree and take the wood for us told hubby that he knew a guy down the street and around the corner who'd probably take it down...but we won't know until he sees it what he would charge. So hubby will have to talk to that guy. I hope we don't end up being charged more. If it was up to me I'd tell the guys that are here across the street to just go ahead and lay the tree down. I know there are large branches from nearby trees that will have to be removed in order to get the offending tree pulled down at the angle it will require in order to not hit the house. But it's not my dogand not my race, because I'd have said "Take it down!", but it doesn't look like it's going to be taken care of this week. *sigh* Hubby took a dislike to the head tree guy for upping the price. And so it goes.
Tweety, I slept well, but Ozzie actually did throw up at the foot of the bed and it also went down onto the dog's bed at the foot of my bed. Karmic payback? It didn't wake me up, but I still had to strip my bed and also launder Ozzie's bed when I got up. // Nannie takes Trazadone AND Mirtazipine at bedtime, but it's the Mirtazipine that (most of the time) makes her fall asleep. One time (years ago) when I was having trouble sleeping, I talked my at-the-time Dr into considering trying one of the 'old-fashioned' sleeping pills. He said, somewhat reluctantly, "Well, okay..." So then I take the prescription to the drugstore...it was for Seconal 50 mg. So guess what the drugstore gave me? SEROQUEL 50 mg. Uh....Uh-uh, that's not even close to right! I brought it back and showed them what they'd filled. They were, as they should've been, quite embarrassed, and glad I didn't make a public stink about it. You could see, looking at the hard copy (not faxed) of the 'script that the Dr's writing wasn't bad enough to make that mistake. I think whoever filled it first saw the "SE" and then the "L" at the end of it, and they automatically thought SEroqueL, as Seconal isn't widely in use anymore. But still, geeze, glad I caught it! Serotonin Syndrome would've come about because I was already on two of them there "re-uptake inhibitors" and I've had it happen before....not fun, and most unpleasant.
Joe, It seems that pretty soon you might be licensed for the entire East Coast of the USA! // Sorry your temps and weather are still so wintry. We are in the upper 60's and low 70's until the temps drop down into the 40's and 50's for a few days. But that ain't bad, compared to the 20's and snow! Besides which, after those several days in the 50's, we'll go back up again to the 60's again. It's a little rainy off and on, but no downpours.
j22- It still blows me away that you have hummingbirds up there in the Winter! Never thought there was such a thing as a hummingbird feeder with a heater to go with it! I took down our h-bird feeder a few weeks ago when our nighttime temps were around freezing and I saw the feeder was filled with ice!
Ado- Hate sleet! Your photo gave me the shivers just thinking about it. I think that we have only had a day or two with some white stuff on the ground so far this year. I've seen it snow in April and May, South of the Mason-Dixon Line, so I better not think we have escaped Winter weather altogether!
Is "South of the Mason-Dixon Line" one of those things that will be renamed? Even the word "Dixie" was removed from some College's song because it was found to be offensive. I understand why, but it still makes me feel OLD to realize what we often saw as funny...well, they just aren't. I've seen a lot of movies from the 50's and 60's that NOW I can see are downright ridiculously offensive in so many ways, to so many peoples. It was what it was, which wasn't good, but they are real eye-openers now. // Along similar lines, in online 'news' stories...many are now all about how the actresses with some age on them are really touting their "abs". Well PFFT! I mean, I guess it is considered "empowering", as they say, but to me it's like So what? Big deal! But every day some women are "celebrating" their 50th or 60th birthday by showing of her abs in a thong bikini on line. That Kardashian bunch are worst of it all. Glad I'm not in their head-set of what's important to share with the world.
Hubby just told Nannie that the tree guy said he would fell our oak tree that's hanging over the house. She didn't know what oak tree we were talking about! Nannie, it's the tree you fret about ALL THE TIME. "Well, I don't remember the tree". When hubby told her what the guy would charge for the work, she said, "Well, *I* don't have $1500!" She sure-as-shooting could pay it, easily. (I did not say: Bite the bullet and fork it over!)
My turn to go get supper; hubby says he doesn't want anything because his stomach doesn't feel good. So what will happen first? Will he go to the doc or end up going to the hospital? Will the tree stay upright for a while longer or will it unexpectedly fall some night? Someone else's foot-dragging can be a hard thing to understand. Oh well!
1 hour ago, Ado Annie said:J22, any tips for keeping the kitchen warm enough for dough to rise?
I'm not j22, but I would say maybe turn the oven on a very low temp, and use the top of the stove on which to allow dough to rise? Our stove-top is warm whenever we use the oven, Cover the bowl w/ a slightly damp towel.) Just my best guess....
PS: We are supposed to have a temp of 77 degrees tomorrow....bring your dough here and it can rise from the heat of the day!
Yes, what Stars said. Sometimes I heat a large pot of water, turn off the burner, put a cookie rack over the pan, and then the bowl/pans on the rack and cover. I am fortunate enough to have an oven with a setting for proofing, but the other day, I was using the oven for braising my beef stew, so I used the pot/rack/bowl method. Depending on your appliances, the top of the fridge or hot water heater may be warm enough. And I used fast rise yeast, which helps.

Good morning. We made it through 2-22-22 2:22 and 2-22-22 22:22. ?
J22, sounds like the rolls were a hit. Good of you to take care of the birds.
Stars, hope you get the tree taken care of quickly. These things have to get done and are expensive.
Ado, hope you had a quiet night and didn't get any admissions. Although those nights can be long if you're not busy.
We're going to miss out on the cold weather gripping the nation and are having really nice warm weather. Best friend and I spent about 2:30 hours just sitting on the beach talking. It was nice. Lots of people. This our "in season" time and the hotels and beaches seem to be doing a robust business for a weekday. They are expecting a good Spring break season as the Spring break popular areas are booked solid. Thankfully the beach here isn't as popular with Spring Breakers and they don't market to them and the liquor laws are stricter. But overall they are good for the economy.
No luck on Day 2 with the trazodone and in fact my insomnia woes seem worse. I did sleep a bit but got up several times and finally got up at 4:20. I'll give it an honest try. He might have to up the dose or go to a plan B. As you guys have heard over the years my sleeping woes are ongoing.
My labs were my norm, meaning my platelets are still low but stable. My triglycerides went up from 33 to 80 this year. I wonder if it was the bag of vegan Cheetos I ate the day before. LOL. Cholesterol went up to 133 but it's lower than some years past.
Not much going on today. Hope to make to the gym, meal prep, etc.
