Hi just wanted to start new thread of anyone applying for the ADN May-July for admission into spring 2015 at Weathford College Main Campus. Lets support each other and help each other with any questions or concerns. How many points are y'all applying with? Does anyone know how many students they accept? When will we notified of acceptance or rejection?
And, hey, we can always try to distract ourselves on here a little bit by telling one another a little about who we are (which specialty we want to go in, why we're going into nursing, or even a tidbit or two about our personal lives). We could all be potential classmates, after all:up:
OHH I'll go first....I love talking about myself hahah. I am 29 years old...mommy to two kiddos (A boy 5 years old and a girl 7 years old). And we have a small zoo of animals (2 dogs 4 barn cats, 11 chickens, 2 ducks, a horse.....). I don't really know what specialty I want to go into. pediatrics or L&D sounds really appealing to me but Kids and babies is all I know haha.....I taught pre K before I had my kids....been a stay at home mom for the last 8 years....who knows...I might find something that appeals to me much more once I get in there. I have always wanted to be a nurse....but it scared me....I was VERY afraid of how emotionally involved I get in things. I was afraid that it would be a career that would take a huge toll on me. If that makes sense. I THOUGHT I wanted to be a teacher......I was wrong lol. I loved it at first and hated it by the time I quit. Nursing just kept coming back to me.....finally after having a heart to heart with a close friend who is a RN she told me something that stuck....she said that the good nurses are the ones who care......there will be hard emotional times but the good definitely outweighs the bad. That conversation just changed things for me....and I went for it. I couldn't be happier now....I feel like I actually have DIRECTION now....I'm not just floundering around trying to figure out where I want to be. Anyway.....I am generally an open book lol And like I said I like talking about myself sooo I get carried away haha
Who's next!?
Haha! Too funny! It sounds like you have the Discovery Channel LIVE at your house LOL! It's interesting, to me, that even though you explored teaching, you're still pursuing a career field where you're influencing others --which I find quite powerful! Kudos to you for going after nursing --especially with a family! I have a lot of respect for that; it's just me and my partner and our dogs (and two cats), and I can only imagine... I once met a woman in my A&P class who had a toddler, worked full-time, and was in school full-time... totally blew my mind. How courageous! I admire people who have the wherewithal to chase their passions, no matter their family situation or personal circumstances!
I guess, obviously, I'll go next. I'm 25. I enrolled last fall. I will have all of my BSN pre-reqs complete by the end of this coming fall semester (except stats --math and I don't get along so well). Before now, I was never very good at school. In fact, I sometimes look back at high school, and wonder how I didn't flunk out LOL! Goes to show how much merit there is to the "direction" and "motivation" factor. With regards to me and nursing specifically: honestly, I never really entertained the idea of being a nurse until I started working in a hospital. I always saw myself doing something a little more creative, and thought, if I ever went to college, I would end up as a humanities or English major. But, as fate would have it, I ended up in the anesthesia department, and I realized how excited I was to go to work every day. "Anesthesia nurses are the creative adrenaline junkies of the nursing world," I was once told, and this is a large part of why it is so appealing to me. Working in the department, I glimpsed how autonomous, hardcore, high-intensity, and brilliant the anesthesia nurses I worked for were, and how much of a difference they could make in their patients lives. These factors captivated me! Something clicked. I realized that I wanted to do -and could do- what they did. So, I enrolled at WC.
A few other tidbits: I'm big on building people up, and taking things one step at a time (but keeping an eye on the prize). I am very independent, and I also like helping others. I generally keep to myself, but others describe me as being very social. I am one of those who believes that we are only as strong as our greatest weakness, and I also pride myself on believing that in order for me to win, it is not necessary for others to fail (the whole "In order to win, someone must fail" mindset of some people is appalling to me).
This is not my first time to apply to the RN program. I applied for the WC Fall 2014 program with just my pre-reqs and a couple BSN classes completed, and I was passed over. It was devastating. HOWEVER, it was a learning experience. I finally understood: big things in life don't always happen on my time. So, I've applied again for the spring, and we'll see what happens. I firmly believe in following passion. I believe this is a field where passion is the very thing that generates success --passion for taking care of people, passion for helping those who can't help themselves, passion for trying to make life better or easier for others, and/or a passion for simply being the best at whatever you choose to do. It is this passion -coupled with a lot of tenacity- that will, not only, get us into the program, but will make us wonderful nurses!
Oh! And, since yall are quite possibly my future classmates, it is probably important to forewarn you that I am "that" student. You know the one. The one who often asks the most questions in class --which sometimes drives everyone else completely bonkers lmao! It may be annoying to some, however, I do this to fully understand (remember, I am not naturally adept at science), and to stay engaged in the material; I thought my classmates in chem last semester were going to lace my coffee with poison LOL!
I wish the best of luck to everyone! I think AllNurses is a wonderful community, and can be a powerful resource. This forum has helped give me the information needed to craft a plan for anesthesia school, and, I've said this before (and I think it's worth saying again): people on this forum -especially pre-nursing and nursing students- are generally the cream of the crop. We're all on here for the same reason: we're passionate about nursing. I think this is an important reason why we shouldn't directly compare ourselves to one another. We're already a leg up on other folks who aren't as.... shall I say, "committed" to this goal. Maybe that sounds a bit arrogant, but, hopefully, you all know what I mean. No matter our backgrounds or circumstances, we're all passionate about the field we want to be in.
Okay. So, I think my lengthy response probably has a few people yawning LOL! Who's next?

Thank you! I never realized how much harder college was going to be this time around (having kids/a family that need my attention). But I wouldn't trade it...it gives me a whole different level of motivation to get done as quickly as possible and do well. Aside from not wanting to waste the money also being a good influence for my kids and show them that no matter the obstacles you can achieve whatever you desire with lots of hard work and motivation. (cheesy I know...but it's true!)
I am also big on building others up and encouraging others. I totally don't understand the mentality so many have of tearing each other down and not wanting others to succeed. I am generally a very optimistic person. I am also that person who wants to take care of EVERYONE else.....guess it's just the mother in me. I've always been that way but I can't help myself.
P.s.- I am okay with lots of questions....as long as it's not lots of whining I had a couple of those types in my prereqs and I don't do whining haha ask my children
whining gets you know where with me
Firstly, don't take it personal, I think that's partly just KL's nature. At first, I kind of thought the same thing. But I've had interactions with her about the program since I enrolled as a student at WC, so I've been driving her crazy for a while now and I can tell you that she's just a busy woman. Also, don't be down on yourself about 35 points. You can only control what you can control. Don't compare yourself to others -especially here on the forum (typically, the best, the brightest, and the ones who want it the most are the ones on here). You're already a step ahead by being apart of the AllNurses community.
Furthermore, I feel like I should remind you that 35 points was the number of points to get in last spring, so you do have a shot. All you can do is your best. So, remember that, and keep trucking along.
About your TEAS: if it makes you feel any better, I forked over my hard-earned cash and retook my TEAS and got ZERO extra points. Somehow, I scored the same flippin' score that I did the first time! Guess I only know what I know LOL!
In short, just remember: progress is progress. Now, all we can do is hope and wait... as patiently as our busy minds will let us haha! Try not to doubt yourself or rag on yourself too much in the meantime:yes:

how many points do you have?
My questions (more get to know you just to pass the time haha)
What classes are you taking in the fall?
Are you applying to any other programs?
I am taking Nutrition, English 1302, and medical terminology.
I am applying to take the prenursing classes at Tarleton in the spring and also applying to TCC for Spring 2014. WC is my first choice Because the drive is so much more convenient. I have been driving to TCC for the last year and a half and I'm ready for a shorter drive. My second choice is Tarleton....I would be finished with my BSN a semester faster through their program (as opposed to doing the ADN at WC and then doing a RN-BSN bridge)....Being finished a semester faster sounds appealing BUT spending more time with my kids and having less stressful mornings (not having to be out the door an hour early to make it to Tarleton) sounds even more appealing
With 41 points you shouldn't have any problems getting accepted into WC. I just want to know how many apps they had in and my chances. I'm in Fort Worth so I'm pretty close to the school. I'm not taking any classes bc I have taken everything considering I have another degree. So I guess you can say I'm kind of relaxing. Lol!!

Trust me I am very hopeful that I will get in.....but I refuse to place all my hopes on this one application no matter how promising it may be until I have an acceptance packet in hand. I didn't get in the first time I applied and it sucked sooo I spent the last 6 months doing every little thing I could to get more points.....I'm just keeping all my options open until I HAVE for sure been accepted
No one should be too discouraged.....there is no telling where the points will fall it is different every time......
My questions (more get to know you just to pass the time haha)What classes are you taking in the fall?

This coming semester looks like history and government exploded onto my schedule; I am taking every history I need (1302, 2306, and I'm retaking 2305 for a better grade --I took it online the first time which turned out to be a mistake, and it jacked up my GPA). I am also taking Nutrition (which I'm kind of excited about because they have an MD coming to WCWC to teach it), and Humanities (literature). After this fall, I will only have stats left as far, as BSN classes go.
No, in answer to the second question, I am not planning on applying anywhere else at this time. Weatherford is incredibly convenient because it's very close, classroom sizes are small, and because everything will transfer to TX Tech (where I will be getting my BSN). I have a very definitive plan, and Weatherford's RN program is very much a part of that plan. Granted, having said that, if I am passed over this spring, I might consider Midwestern or another school or two. But, because of my current employer and many other circumstances, attending a school that is close -and because getting my RN as soon as possible is a big priority- Weatherford my top choice. It could all change, but, as of now, Weatherford is the only program I'm applying to.
@Tesouthern, where are you taking your Nutrition class? Last term, they had Ebee (sp?) teaching. This fall, I hear the guy that's coming to WCWC to teach the class is an MD who's gone rouge and has decided to teach in his free time (which makes me kind of excited). Also, I think you have a very smart plan; with everything you've said you have going in your life, Weatherford does sound like the best option. Plus, having said that, I think you sound like the type of person I'd like to have as a classmate:yes:
You said something about TCC in spring of 2014 in your prior post, but, since that has already passed, I assume you meant next year? In my opinion, I think the bridge is the ideal option --especially considering that we can already be working as nurses while we do it, and because it is all online. Most of my coworkers tell me the bridge is mostly just writing and putting your understanding of evidence-based-practice to work by showing that you know how to apply it; a friend of mine obtained her BSN from Tech in a little under 7 months (so, at least in her case, it was faster to do ADN to BSN as opposed to straight BSN).

I am taking it at the weatherford campus (With Ibe). I was VERY close to taking it WCWC but I am SO much closer to the Wford campus (I am about 15 miles west of Wford) and with dropping kids at school and still being able to make it to class...that was going to be tricky if I took the WCWC class. (If I remember right it was a morning session). Now that I hear that it's being taught by a MD I am kinda sad I didn't! My A&P I professor was a MD who was no longer practicing and the information she could give....and the stories she told made took that class to a whole different level for me.
And thanks I am glad I sound like the kinda classmate you'd like to have...I try to be and could say the same for you. Hopefully in a few short weeks we will be getting that good news
and yep....I meant 2015...I can be a little scatter brained at times lol

Don't be discouraged. The cut off for wise county campus was only 32 for the fall....THERE IS A CHANCE....you can't compare the few numbers you see here because there is no telling what the other apps look like.
I applied last semester with unfinished classes and didn't get accepted. It's not the end of the world. It will happen as long as you work hard and be persistent. I have literally taken pretty much EVERY CLASS for the ADN and BSN programs and taken the TEAS twice. Last application period I was in the place of wondering HOW ON EARTH do people get so many points on their application. But with a lot of hard work I am applying in a MUCH better place than where I was last semester (I literally had several points less than what you have now)
