Wearing uniform enhances nursing profession?

Published

Hi,

This is my first posting here. Hope to hear views on this topic "Wearing uniform enhances nursing profession." Yes, everybody knows that we have been "fighting" over the issue to wear uniform or not since the past. I am working in a tertiary hospital in Singapore but currently, only the ER nurses in my hospital are wearing the scrub suite, beside the OT staff. As for the general nursing staff, we are still wearing uniform. Really wish to implement this change in general nursing side but really need some ideas and views from your all to submit my purposal. What are the pros and cons that you face when you are not wearing uniform while rendering the nursing care?

Welcome to Allnurses.com............ :)

In the US, I am not aware of any hospitals that require the white uniform that you wear in your country. I was living in Thailand until very recently and always found it quite odd with everyone in their white dresses, and carrying of the clipboard. Actually quite impractical, even with the shoes with the little heels. Wearing white in an ICU or even the ER, can be hard to keep them clean. Same thing with the nurse's cap, if worn daily, how often is it actually cleaned? It can carry more germs than anything else. I wish that they would do away with the hat practice in many of the countries...........more for cleanliness sake, if nothing else.......

Plus, why does everyone have to look the same as everyone else?
