WCCCD

Published

Hi All,

So I am in the last leg of classes to start applying to programs and WCCCD is the first school on my list. I have seen several threads throughout about the school and was just wondering if anyone else was preparing to apply this year? I was wondering how heavily on the point system does the all classes completed at WC3 weigh? I have taken a majority of my classes there but recently transferred when a class I needed for another program I am applying to wasn't offered there for me. Does anyone know the answer to this? I am currently sitting with a 3.3 gpa. Would that be enough to get into the program or should I maybe work on taking some classes over? All of my classes are A's and B's with one C (Intro to Bio). Any advice you guys could share would greatly help and maybe we can support each other through the last few semesters before applying!!

I have taken those classes as well already and my suggestion which I wish someone would have told me would be to start with the science classes. mainly since for most they are the most challenging. Then I would work on the basic education classes. I wish I would have done that because other schools that I am applying to don't require as many classes as WC3 but they all require a lot of the science classes

My advisor suggested taking those classes for my first semester. I am really considering going to both Wayne State and WCCCD to tackle classes for my associates and bachelor I spoke with someone yesterday at the Wayne State college of nursing and she states that they do not give first priority to their students that have taken all of their pre-req's there she said the GPA is the number one thing that they look at. So if I chose to stay at WCCCD until I do all my required classes that doesn't mean that I wouldn't get in!

As someone just starting out I am going to take it one day at a time and figure out what nursing program I am going to apply to when I get to that point . No offense to anyone else but it makes no sense worrying now if you are still taking pre-req's. So I wish you all well!

It actually does make a difference for you to think about what schools you would like to apply to while you are doing your pre req's. For one, most schools don't all require the exact same classes. For example WC3 requires Eng 119, AP1 and 2, Micro, Bio 155 (although not directly stated), and Psy 101. HFCC only requires a chemistry class, Math class, and Ap1. MCC only wants English, Bio, and Anatomy if I am not mistaken before you can apply to their program. Based on the programs you are interested in, those would be some of the classes you would have to take. If you only focus on WC3 and then decide later that you would like to apply to more schools than that you will see that you don't exactly have all the classes to apply. what I did was pick out the schools that I knew I was going to be sending an application to and print out all their requirements. I compared it to the classes that I have already taken and looked to see what was still needed. First I tried to take the classes that more than one school required and so on and so forth until I will have satisfied all the pre req's for any of the schools I was interested in. if I am able to apply to a school before I am able to apply to the others I will do so. That way my options are open and I have placed my eggs in more than one basket. So even if one or two schools tell me no I still have 3 or 4 more that I can apply to that may tell me yes. I have explored both the ADN and BSN options so I will be applying for both programs. So what I'm mainly trying to say is you do need to make yourself aware of what other schools you may be interested in require so that you can plan accordingly and aren't bombarded at the last minute trying to complete more pre reqs.

It is one thing to plan and look ahead, but it is another thing to worry and let it consume you. So I do agree with you about planning and doing your research for nursing programs. However I do not agree with focusing so much on it that your pre req's and such suffer.

I don't believe that is what the OP was doing and I don't think it's fair to ASSUME that.

OP, you are doing the right thing by comparing schools, taking prereq's that correlate with most schools and so forth. You are increasing your chances of getting into a nursing program. I just graduated from WCCCD's nursing program and I can tell you it is a tough program, but once you get used to it you will find it to be very rewarding. I am now a Nurse Intern waiting to take my boards. You can do it! Just stay focused and stay away from the negative Nellie's. :o) Good Luck!

actually you also have to have 2 english and a psych class before you get on the waitlist and 12 credits at hfcc

Why? What happend?

Sorry about the reaging this thread but I was curious about the following statement.

Anybody want to comment on this?

BIO 155 or the overall GPA does not count towards getting in the program. You need a high GPA in the 5 classes; A&P 1, A&P 2, ENG 119, PSY 101 and Micro-biology. Get A's in those five and score good on your teas and you will be in.

Thank you for this information. I thought this is how it worked but other people told me it was the overall GPA. I just started this semester with BIO. I'm excited and worried about Micro next semester. Everyone says don't worry it's not like you have to get an A but I do if I want to get into the program.

Micro is not that bad. Just stay focused from the beginning. I got a B (my only one in my pre-reqs)
