WCCCD

Published

Hi All,

So I am in the last leg of classes to start applying to programs and WCCCD is the first school on my list. I have seen several threads throughout about the school and was just wondering if anyone else was preparing to apply this year? I was wondering how heavily on the point system does the all classes completed at WC3 weigh? I have taken a majority of my classes there but recently transferred when a class I needed for another program I am applying to wasn't offered there for me. Does anyone know the answer to this? I am currently sitting with a 3.3 gpa. Would that be enough to get into the program or should I maybe work on taking some classes over? All of my classes are A's and B's with one C (Intro to Bio). Any advice you guys could share would greatly help and maybe we can support each other through the last few semesters before applying!!

Hi! I'm not applying to start (been there, done that), but I might be able to help anyway.

WCCCD uses a point-based system that, if I recall correctly, breaks down as follows: max 60 pts for GPA, max 20 pts for TEAS, 10 pts for all classes taken at WCCCD, max 5 pts for having all co-reqs done, and 5 pts for having some sort of certified, qualifying prior medical experience. I'm not quite sure whether the "all classes at WCCCD" is an all-or-nothing thing - meaning 10 pts if you've taken 100% of classes there, 0 pts if you've taken 99% - but it seems likely to me.

As far as your GPA goes, whether a 3.3 is enough to get you in depends on your TEAS score and how many of the other points you can get, as well as the GPAs of the other applicants. If you're low on overall points, you might want to re-take Bio 155 to get that C up at least. You might be able to speak with someone in the nursing office (at the Northwest campus) about what you should do, but it depends on with whom you speak and when. ;)

Thanks for your help! I will try and contact someone there and see if they can help me with that. I had a feeling I may have to take the BIO 155 class again but I was kind of trying to wait and see how my other grades panned out. Luckily Chemistry isn't need at WC3 otherwise I would be docked points for taking it somewhere else. I am just so ready to get through jumping all these hoops and start the program!!

How do you like the program so far? Did you only have to apply once?

fyi a gpa of 3.3 will not get you into wcccd

i am in med surge 3 currently

not trying to get your hopes down but the most important thing to get in is a high gpa i had a 3.8 and the lowest that got in was a 3.7

also dont retake bio155

if you retake a course take one of the nsg course bio 155 wont count for your gpa

I know that a 3.3 won't get me in I said thats where I am currently I haven't taken AP or patho yet. Hopefully once I do it increases my gpa

BIO 155 or the overall GPA does not count towards getting in the program. You need a high GPA in the 5 classes; A&P 1, A&P 2, ENG 119, PSY 101 and Micro-biology. Get A's in those five and score good on your teas and you will be in.

i'm currently in med surg 3 and i got into the program with a 3.4. Don't get discouraged. All you can do is apply and hope you get in.

Thanks I am definietly going to try and keep my hopes up and just work really hard at getting into the program. I do have a back up plan if all the schools I apply to turn me down (which I hope isn't the case) so I should be okay but I REALLY want this and I am willing to work at it. I just don't want to be like so many people I have read about on here that try for 2 or 3 years and STILL don't get in. Thats so discouraging!

don't just walk, run away from wayne county community college. fair warning.

That is very helpful to know since I am just starting out this semester I am currently taking ENG 119, PSY 101, and pre-algebra!:yeah:

I have taken those classes as well already and my suggestion which I wish someone would have told me would be to start with the science classes. mainly since for most they are the most challenging. Then I would work on the basic education classes. I wish I would have done that because other schools that I am applying to don't require as many classes as WC3 but they all require a lot of the science classes
