WCCCD student needs some opinions/advice! Please :)

Published

Hello,

I have a question for my fellow wcccd students. I am hoping to apply for the fall 2011 program this feb. I was hoping someone could maybe give me some advice or their opinion on what my chances are on getting in the program. Here is my info.

English (The only class I didn't take @ WCCCD)- A

BIO155- A

A & P- A

A & P2- C

PSY-B

MICRO- A

PATHO- A

LIFESPAN- A

SOCIOLOGY- A

Overall GPA - 3.66

Also, I am scheduled to take the TEAS in November, so I am not sure on my scores for that yet.

So, I have 3 of of the 7 co-req's done and all but 1 pre-req taken at WCCCD, 3.66 GPA and no medical certification.

Should I try re-taking a & p 2 before I go through all the trouble of applying?? Any advice or opinions are GREATLY appreciated.

THANKS:)

Hi, I know this isn't pertained to your question but do you mind giving me some advice on what teachers to take for pre-reqs im going for nursing too im going to wcccd also !!

Hi, Yeah I took all the professors reccomended off of ratemyprofessors . com. I only regret taking 1 Which was A & P II online w/William Casey. He was awful. Stay away from him. I ignored the bad ratings on ratemyprofessors that he received and I regret it soo bad. I took Jerry Rogers (online) for BIO, Ann Schmidt (online) for A and P, Don't remember who I took for PSY, I know it was a woman and it was online. Sociology online I took Christina Swasey. Also Lifespan Wyatt Fisher and for Patho I took Brian Jordan both were online also. Ratemyprofessor has been pretty accurate for me.

If I were you I'd take the Eng. & AP 2 over again! I wouldn't use any classes not taken at WCCCD because you lose 10 points in the Nursing application scoring process, and that's a lot.

Good luck!

I would suggest taking AP2 again however I would also tell you to still apply this year. I don't think it would hurt and you never know you may end up getting in!! I am always optimistic that way. I will still be applying although I know there are some classes I need to retake again myself.

Thanks for the advice. Is the 10 points an all or nothing deal? Like, can I get some points for having some credits at wcccd??

Thanks! Good luck too :) Did you take the teas yet?

No I haven't taken the TEAS test yet but plan to soon. I have taken the HESI before for another school and its my understanding that they are kind of similar but I want to study from some TEAS study guides before I go in. Hopefully I do well though and get some promising news in 2011!

Ashleys27 I also wanted to ask you how you liked Anatomy online? was it extremely difficult? Did it require more than you would think in class? I took Ap1 online at HFCC and I got a C. I know I am going to have to take it again to increase my chances of getting into a nursing program but I still plan to apply this year. I am in AP2 now and doing pretty good so hopefully it stays that way!

If you get the right professor like I did for a &p 1 you can learn a lot and it can be very simple. So I guess it depends on whos teaching.

I am currently in the nursing program at WCCCD.

My advice is to DEFINITELY retake A&PII. I know quite a few ppl who have been denied access to the program because they got less than an 'A' in any of the science classes. I am not saying you have to have a 4.0 overall, because I certainly didn't, but I made sure my A&PI, II, and Micro were A's. The only 'B' that I had for pre-reqs/co-reqs was psych. I originally had a 'C' in Eng 119 (horrible, horrible online teacher), but retook it before I applied, and got an 'A'. Not sure if that helped, but I did get in the program the first time I applied.

If you don't get in the first time, try finishing all of your co-reqs (esp HSC100), and other medical classes like Med Term, Phlebotomy, etc.

Good luck!

I got into the nursing program and did not take english or psych at wcccd. So I would apply and take a&p 2 over if you want. I did have all A's in my prereqs but I think you could still get in
