WCCCD Spring 2013 Hopeful!!

U.S.A. Michigan

Is there anyone else on here who is waiting for a response from WCCCD's nursing department? I applied June 30, and am going slightly crazy waiting for my acceptance/denial e-mail! Let's get to know each other, hopefully we'll be classmates!

I'm glad you still got what you wanted. What time did you leave?

Sorry so late responding.... After you left things started moving very quickly. I was probably in the last 15-20 people called and I left like maybe 15 minutes after you. I didn't get my first choice schedule but after I got home I saw I got really good instructors and I could have ended up with VERY difficult ones. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate instructors who challenge us but I don't appreciate the ones who just read the material off of their texts and then quiz us. To me that is not an instructor. Did you check out your instructors yet?

We've got the same schedule except I don't have nutrition and Med Math. I read up on my instructors today and ppl had some positive feedback. I can't wait for classes to start. I was wondering when we're able to purchase our books because I'd really like to get a head start on reading.

I am glad you are hearing good things about your instructors. I think we can buy the books now. The bookstore has a website you can shop off of. Anyone ever tried renting books? I have heard about people doing it but I am not really sure how the whole process works. I may look further into it. I really need to get started on reading the student handbook.

I don't think you can use a book voucher from the book stores website. I've rented books before, but I figured I may need to keep my books for reference.

The room numbers are not on my schedule. I know what campus to go to (duh) but don't know the classroom

What was the name of the NCLEX book nursing students were supposed to buy?

Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN 5th edition

I waited to about the start of the semester to post, sorry. I am in the 2012 fall classes, my 1st and 2nd 7.5 weeks have been HELL! although I made it through, im seriously considering changing my career path. I hate to discourage anyone, but the whole program is so dissorganized, really, it's absolutly pathetic! although 75% may not seem like much, but the endless nights of studying, and seeing know results you will take that 75 and run. Avoid teachers who doesn't explain rationales. Rationales are a major portion of this program. And if you have a professor who will not explain the reason they came up with the answers, your done. For instance, NUR 110, not going to name the instructor, on the test, there was a question on a patient who has diabetes. EVERY STUDENT IN THE CLASS GOT THIS QUESTION WRONG! 60 people, and when she realized that one word caused the change in the question leading to the inccorect answer she did not give any of us credit. Her reason was, IM a nurse you guys are trying to be nurses, If you failed by answering just that qusestion inccorect. Then, you didnt need to pass anyway. And those of you who barely made it in, congrats, however, you might want to change you study habbits, trust me this program is not like your pre-req's, It's microbiology X 10. Believe me. READ AHEAD OF TIME! and understand critical thinking, THAT NCLEX book techniques of a beginning nursing student, that should be your forth class, read it and understand it, it has helped me a great deal. GOOD LUCK, I'll will see you in class. post me.

Im not surprised at all

Thanks darien for the heads up. I hate to say it but I'm definitely discouraged and scared lol. And I don't know how I couldn't be since everyone in the program that has experience never say anything positive. I work very well when I'm nervous, so I have that to look forward to lol. I took patho and got an A, which I thought was a much harder class than micro. My best method has always been checking myself with critical thinking Qs at the end of the chap. If I drew a blank then I had to go back and read again. Only when I can speak from my mind on a question or describe a process without reference then I know I have a chance. Patho conditioned my brain to the point that the information practically became romanticized in my mind. When you say micro x10 I believe you and I can handle that as crazy as it sounds. But when you give the impression that its hard because the teachers are disorganized and egotistical then thats what scares me the most because I won't be able to control that. Good luck though and I hope everything works out for you. You got through one semester so at least you know you can hang.
