Transfer within the facility - Notify CM?
Thank you. That helps, for sure. I am not satisfied on the unit I am on because I am not learning enough. It is a Surgical floor. I have no experience with medical patients, I have only been a part of 2 codes, performed CPR once, and the floor just simply does not interest me much. I often feel more like a waitress than a Nurse. I thought being there when the patients were awake might give me more opportunities for critical thinking, interventions, and more practice with my skills, it didn't. I am hoping to go to an ICU or ICU Step down. Obviously, I would re-word this reasoning. In your opinion, does this come off condescending? I don't want to insult her or come off rude in anyway. Thank you again!

Transfer within the facility - Notify CM?
So I have been on my unit for 18 months now. I am a new Nurse and this was my first job. I recently went from nights to afternoons and I am still not satisfied with where I am. I want to start applying for a different specialty in the same organization I am not sure if I should make my Manager aware that I am thinking about making a change or just wait until I get an official offer. Will she know that I am applying? What would you do? Thanks in advance!

Question on head lice
Thanks so much for your input. Still a student so excuse my ignorance and thanks again :)

Question on head lice
You are bathing a patient and you notice movement in hair. It may be an infestation of head lice. What is proper nursing action? I was thinking- Examine patients head and genitals for an idea of severity of infestation, if one is present. Notify Dr for further instructions Educate patient/patient family on pediculosis treatment, control, and prevention. Implement Dr's orders Document Any help is greatly appreciated

Wcccd 2014 hopeful
Hi everyone :) I am a nursing student at WCCCD and I too was worried about getting in the program at one point. And it's funny once I got in, I talked to so many people about their GPA and TEAS scores and believe it or not almost everything you hear from people that aren't in the program isn't so accurate.....I talked to a person who got in with a 3.2 gpa. I retook a class and wasted my money because of rumors. At one point WCCCD was VERY competitive but it's not somuch anymore. My advice to you (because I would bet money on the fact you are in) is read read read. Study ahead of time because a lot of people fail the first semester. The first two weeks are INSANE.

WCCCD Spring 2013 Hopeful!!
No problem :) If I were you I would take basic Pre-Algebra if you really think you need it. There isn't any Medical Math on the Teas and I can tell you the ATI Study Guide is almost exactly like the TEAS. And also to be honest with you the TEAS isn't bad at all. The Math is all basic Pre-Algebra and the ATI study guide explains the formulas really well. You Tube helped me a lot too and I haven't has a math class in ten years (since high school).

Anyone have any shoe reccomendations? I am thinking I might buy some Nike Shox. I do think those shoes are hideous but I hear they are really comfy.

HSC 100 Medical Measurements and Math is actually a different course than ALH 105 Medical Math. HSC 100 is what is required. HSC isn't offered in the summer or online.

I am glad you are hearing good things about your instructors. I think we can buy the books now. The bookstore has a website you can shop off of. Anyone ever tried renting books? I have heard about people doing it but I am not really sure how the whole process works. I may look further into it. I really need to get started on reading the student handbook.

Sorry so late responding.... After you left things started moving very quickly. I was probably in the last 15-20 people called and I left like maybe 15 minutes after you. I didn't get my first choice schedule but after I got home I saw I got really good instructors and I could have ended up with VERY difficult ones. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate instructors who challenge us but I don't appreciate the ones who just read the material off of their texts and then quiz us. To me that is not an instructor. Did you check out your instructors yet?

WCCCD Spring 2013 Hopeful!!
Yeah, that's what I thought. I was wishfully thinking I could have more time. What's your first 7.5 weeks look like? I am going to be CRAZY busy. Unfortunatley, the only co-req's I didn't take yet just happen to be Nutrition and Med Math. So I am taking Nutrition online (which I hear is VERY tedious). For some reason I thought I could take nutrition in the summer and not worry about it first semester. Well here's my first 7.5 weeks- Nutrition online Tuesday 2-4 Thursday 8am-4 Friday 8am-1:30 Saturday 8am-3:45 (Medical Math starts at 12 pm for me so that explains the long day)
