WCCCD nursing program advice

Hello... I am going to give you some advice. Please do not pay too much attention to the negative things that people say about WCCCD on this forum. I can assure you that Wayne County has a very vigorous, competitive program that produces quality nurses. We share Clinical instructors with Eastern and HFCC and other schools.
Although WCCCD does not carry an NLN accredidation, it is by the Michigan Board of Nursing. If you go the the NLN website, you will find that there are not many schools around metro Detroit that are. I am going to tell you that this will not hinder you finding a job when you graduate, or going on for you BSN or MSN. Perhaps by the time you get in the program, they will have the NLN accredidation.
For me, the fact that WCCCD is about 1/3 of the cost as HFCC, and there is NO WAITING LIST, and I plan to go on for my MSN, WCCCD was a no lose situation.
So about your question. With the grades you have, you will have about a 3.4. When I was accepted this past Fall, 3.4 was the minimum to get an acceptance. I would strongly recommend that you retake Psych. I took it online, and getting an A was very doable. I would say that if you get an A in psych, you will most likely get in on your first application.
I would just like to finish off by saying that because of Wayne County's no wait list policy, the students who are accepted into the program have high GPA's, and are generally good students. I promise that all of these prereqs do come into play in the program (except maybe Micro)...and in the end WCCCD has a very high NCLEX pass rates for it's students.

I have in no way implied that attending WCCCD is a waste of money....and I did not speak to any prereqs required to getting into nursing...thank you very much. I wasn't speaking of any particular school, but schools in general, and classes offered in general. Also as I stated, if not for the fact that there was no NLN, I would have chosen there myself.....asking those questions first. I personally am planning on moving out of state when I'm done....hence a National accreditation would be better for me. So before you all decide to jump on the defensive and gang up on someone, make sure you try not to read between lines that don't exist. I plainly stated

I'm not knocking the school in the least seeing as how I am an alumni, but if I were in the position (at any school) to be attending all for not, I would want warning. Business is business as far as schools go. Schools are known for collecting money for classes and not giving practical use outside (no....I'm not speaking of ANY particular school).

To each his own....I am more than happy for her if she attends and loves it and is very successful. Regardless, I have provoked questions that she can decide herself whether or not to ask. Isn't that the purpose? I have yet to attack WCCCD, so don't try to make me feel as though I've done anything wrong in presenting her with a valid thought. I have no loyalty to any school just as they have no loyalty to me. It is a business...if I don't pay them, I don't get an education....therefore IF there education is not up to par....I don't attend. It works both ways, so defend WCCCD to the end....doesn't matter to me. But defend the school to someone who is actually putting the school down, not to someone who is making sure others ask questions before they attend. Don't confuse me with the negative ones.

I hope you all can forgive my instigations, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. And just like this time, if I don't know, I'll say so, AND I'll advise the other person to ask questions. To MISSALISSA777, I apologize for the highjacking of this thread, but if you inquire more now than you did before...I've done what I planned to do. I hope that you get into the program of your choice and wish you much success in your future career!!!

Don't sweat it. We all love ya still. Thank you for the viewpoint and opinions. They are very helpful for a future student looking to change careers from Engineering to Nursing (me).

HI OP im a first semester WCCCD nursing student, you should take a pen/pencil and paper with you to the meeting to take notes. When determining gpa for admittance first they take your pre reqs and average them out then they take your pre reqs and completed co reqs and average them out and take the higher score of the two.
