Ways for US educated chinese nurse to immigrate to Canada

Hi,

I am a US educated chinese nurse currently residing in Los Angeles CA looking to immigrate to Canada. I have about 5 years of working experience as a registered nurse in the US. I have an RN license in California. I have created an express entry profile this yeat but my crs score is low. Probably due to the fact that I am too old. I have looked into provincial nomination program but looks like i am not eligible. Are there any other ways to immigrate to canada? Will starting with a work visa or student visa work? I am planning to immigrate with my wife and our 2 year old son. Which province needs nurse the most? I am really desperate and in need to move out of the US. Please help! Thanks a lot!

A lot of the Maritime provinces are looking for nurses. They may even be willing to start on work permit and then support you towards residency but you may have to look at LTC to start with. You may have more luck getting registration sorted first so would suggest looking at the various provinces and decide where you want to live then check out their provincial college of RN for requirements

Thank you very much for your reply! So should I start by getting my license sorted out first and then go apply for jobs once I get my Canadian RN license? I have read in various immigration forums that it is very hard to get an employment offer or a sponsorship for a work permit. I am looking at working in Nova Scotia.

You will have more opportunities having sorted registration out. Nova Scotia is beautiful. You may have luck in areas really suffering with short supply of nurses but if you want Halifax then it may be difficult finding employers willing to go work permit route.

Thank you again! Very helpful information! One last question, do you know how long the registration process take? Just wanna have an approximate timeline in mind. If the registration process takes too long, I may have to look into other options.

NNAS can take anything from 8 to 12 months and then with the college expect roughly 4 to 6 months

Hi，may I know how have you progressed? I am also Chinese and just about to do a 1 year's Accelerated BSN in the US. Not sure if this could be accepted by Canada. Did you get a Canadian License yet? Thank you a lot!
