Wayland Baptist University SA

Published

Just wanted to start a thread where students (previous, current, and future) from the nursing program at Wayland can vent, talk, ask and share ideas and questions. Maybe it can make life easier and less stressful. So share and ask so we can help each other get through school and life somewhat stress-free!!

Or maybe someone has questions about the school and programs. I was originally going to transfer to UTHSCSA from ACCD but this program has less applicants and closer to home. If I would have known about this school sooner I would have not taken classes I took for UTHSCSA that I didn't need for WBU.

From what I can tell, the full review module for the RN is like $200, while the Fundamentals is about $40, it's kinda pointless to buy it when we are going to get access to it anyway when we start school. =/

So what u gonna do?

I'm tempted to buy it, but I'm probally not going to. I feel confident in my skills. Plus I'm gonna study my butt off with all the other study materials I have.

How's the skills test going?

NO BODY PASSED. First; we had to pass a med math test. Doesn't sound hard right? We all know how to calculate tabs and drips...but the test was set up to fail, and I'm not holding a biased opinion simply because I didn't pass. The instructor told us we would have 10 questions with 30 min to finish. And these were not simple, you have this ordered and this on hand. No, there were nclex styled questions you have to thoroughly read and make sure you know what they are asking first. We all go into the test...and it only gives us 15 minutes to finish. The instructor basically said, too bad we will no change it. Out of 10 questions I got kicked off at number 9. I even went to the nursing dean and told her what happened. Did that fix anything? No, no retest, no apology for basically wasting everybody's time. We had even walked in and they basically said " You suck, no one will pass." We tried to go over the questions with the two instructor and they were very defensive about us wanting to see our tests and what we had put for the answers. We never saw our test. We got a percentage of what we got wrong, but no actually overview of you missed 1,2 ,3..nothing. Only one girl got to move onto the skill testing because the one question that everyone agreed on, and even the instructor grudgingly, agreed that the question was jacked up, the girl who go to move on didn't pass the skills. The whole attitude that we got from the instructors was " You wouldn't even pass the skills, they are too hard and it's good you are going through the whole program." My issue with this is that, yes it probally will benefit me to complete the whole 24 months, however, don't waste all these students time with giving the option to go LVN-BSN. I feel like this is a way that they get students to pay for classes and enroll at wayland who are LVNs in the hopes that they can do a shortened BSN program, and then when they don't get in LVN track, they are forced to go in through the normal track, because it would have been wasted time with all the classes that have been taken in order to be accepted into this program. Am I upset? Of course, I thought that we at least would have a fair chance at testing, but like I said earlier, its a waste of time to try to do LVN to BSN at wayland, you might as well just go regular track and save yourself time studying and the excitement of the possiblity to get out of school with a BSN in 18 months. On a positive note, orientation is tommorow. On a negative note, Abby called me today and told me the drug screening hasn't given them the results...and I'm like dude people need to do their freaking jobs and stop making this process harder than it should be.

Dude that sucks!!! But u know what when we got our letters remember I said that they had different classes for LVN's well when the schedule came out the classes they put on the letter were not offered I thought that was weird. I know y now cuz they knew they weren't passing any of u!! I heard the instructors were bad asses but I also heard they cleaned house last semester. Have u seen the syllabus for pharmacology. The teacher seems helpful.

Ur drug screen should be in. Mine took like 2 days!!

Have u gotten all ur stuff?

Uniforms & stuff?!

It did seem weird when I went onto my verify student online that I couldn't see any results as being up. So I called the Concentra downtonw where I had it done and the lady took my information and DIDNT call me back. So now I have to chase them down and be like dude where the flip are my results? And I haven't seen the syllabus, I thought we would get it today at orientation. I haven't gotten uniforms and things, I still have my white scrubs left over from my lvn days...although I might by a new white top cuz the one I had was a small, but it was crazy big on me. Lol.

U can't wear scrubs roflmao!! I was gonna do the same & someone from class said they had special ones so I emailed them. She said white collar uniform NO SCRUBS!! WHAT!! I'm glad I didn't put my patches on. Just got mine last night in New Braunfels.

Man I look back on this thread I made for Wayland I sound so excited!! But after my first quarter I realize it was the worst choice of my life.

I guess I should have known when I heard their pass rate sucked. I know why it sucks now but to late for me. Starting over somewhere else!!

Just wanted to warn ppl that low pass rates are for a reason, that reason being that you are not being taught what's needed. I know not everyone is gonna pass but 60 something % is a teaching issue not student. If almost half the ppl are not passing that's pretty bad, wish I would have paid attention to that but I believed the school telling me that it was nothing that the rate was going up blah blah.

Good luck to everyone on your school choice!!

I am sorry that your first semester did not go well! I am curious about what you are doing now? I have been following this thread for a while in hopes of getting some insight on why students did so poorly. I am currently enrolled in the online program. Are you going to a different school or giving wayland another try??

I got a re acceptance letter for the spring but I also got accepted to an ADN for the spring. Teachers/teaching sucks there. Most of us had groups where we all taught each other but that final ATI got me. I was paying all the attention to their slides & the textbook because they said that's what we needed to do. I should have bought the ATI books & u should do the same if you haven't. I was thinking of doing the online program there but it's so expensive & I heard they're doing away with it. Idk

I just started another thread because I don't know what to do about the 2 programs. Time & money is tight & I have invested so much in this school but I can't look pass their horrible pass rates. I have to let the ADN school know by Monday. What would you do in my situation?

Im so sorry i never responded! I got caught up with school and forgot. I hope that you decided ADN! am still pushing thrpugh the online program but it is the same situation as face to face. I take my ATI final tomorrow and hope to pass and transfer schools.let me know if you decided for the ADN!
