Watts School of Nursing?

U.S.A. North Carolina

Anyone attend Watts?

I've been hearing it's pretty good, but would love to hear more input.

Thanks!

Rnrgrl,

You need your BLS certification by your orientation of the 1st Nursing class semester. It has to be a healthcare provider one however. I would also recommend waiting until the month before and getting a two year program.

For ex: I started my nursing semester Jan 09 and got my certification Dec 08 that is good for two years.

If you do that, then you wont have to pay to renew it. Once you graduate, you can renew it at your place of work for free (ie: durham regional, unc, etc.)

hope that helps!!!

Hello!

I started my pre reqs this month and am going to start my nursing classes in Jan 2010. Just wondered how you current nursing students were doing and see if you had any advice for us up and coming! Im an older student to! Or as they call us "mature" student, lol.:D

P.S. Really enjoying Mt Olive so far and looking forward to Jan! Woo Hoo!

Great to hear!! Hope it's going well!! I would just recommend really getting your A&P down. Even if you're going fast or dont need to know too much in class, learn it on your own. You'll need it for 2nd semester. Good luck for the rest of term!!

I'm glad to see the Watts students are still around! I was hoping to join by the fall, but I had some family issues so I'll aim for next June.

Good luck everyone! You can do it. :w00t:

Hello everyone:

I have a question to all who are about to start the program or any that has already started the program. Please anyone with any information or insight on this please help. I was wondering what step are being taken to supplement your income while you are in school after the mount olive portion. I'm a planner and that's part of my concern. Please help. If its too personal to post here. Please send me an email or find me on facebook.

w201962,

I am not working as a student, I may work a bit as a CNA in the coming semesters but I am in my first semester so I thought it best to hold off and see how I was handling everything. There are people that are still working though school in my cohort. The financial aid that I got from Mount Olive didn't cover all of my tuition for the first two semesters and I wasn't left with any excess. I have a decent amount in savings but decided I didn't want to use everything thing I have and be left with nothing after graduation. I took out a private loan through Wells Fargo as that was really my only other option. I know private loans have higher interest rates but sometimes if that is the only options you have to take it. Plus if you do the tuition payback option through Duke you can pay them down faster. I will still end up using the majority of my savings before I graduate but I had to think about the outcome and how I will have a great job and be able to pay my loans. So my advice is look into some private loans or work, those are really the only options I can think of to supplement income while in school. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a planner too and money worries have really been the hardest part of this experience so far for me. What I did was take a good look at what I have and how much it takes me to live on per month and figure out how much of my savings I wanted to use toward schooling and living and then I took out a loan.

Good Luck!

Kellmoiselle,

Thank you so much. Your post was extremely helpful. Do you have to have excellent credit or how does that work? I've never had to take out a loan, so i'm a little behind in that area. One other thing do you have any pointers for taking the test and when will you graduate in 2012 right?

I do have very good credit, but I still got a cosigner as well, they wouldn't allow me to apply without one since I have no income. The better your credit the better the rate you will get. Check out wells fargo Education Connection Loan, I also know someone that got one through Wachovia but I didn't find any info on that when I was looking so I'm not sure about that one. Sally May used to have a private loan but they are no longer taking applications for that due to the economy being in bad shape. College Foundation NC has an Extra education loan that is private but my understanding is th.at you aren't eligible for that in your first semester.

I will graduate in May 2011, I started my prereq course with MOC in Jan 09 and am in my first semester of nursing courses now. Are you referring to the entrance exam for the school or the NCLEX that you will take when you graduate to get your licensure? If it's the later I don't have any advice on that yet :)

Hey! Im flying from California to NC to take the enterance test to Watts.(Ill be going to Tn. for Christmas, so thought Id make a pit stop in NC) Im not sure of how the test exactly works or what exactly I should study for. Since I will be flying cross-country partially for this reason, Im really wanting to pass! Can I get some details, tips, advice ,Anything regarding the PSB-RN. Ive taken the TEAS and NET, and want to see how they compare? Thanks so much!!

Well, I never took any of the other tests so I don't know how they compare. But, just know that the test isn't meant to be finished. You won't have time to. Just answer as many as you can as accurately as you can.

Reading page long stories and answering questions make up one part, basic math questions, and some logic (pictures where you complete the sequence) is basically it.

Make sure you schedule yourself EARLY to take the test. Call and see if you can get the test dates. They probably aren't out yet for December though. It's usually month to month. I would definitely call one or twice a week until you get it because the test dates fill up within 5 days of being announced typically. I had called the third day after it was announced and 2 out of 3 days were already full.

Best of luck!!

Thanks so much! Youve eased my worries a bit. I talked to the student coordinator and Im flying out there in december, because Im coming from out of state, she said that she would accomadate me for a test time. I bought the book they recommended, so Im gonna just study that and pray to the lord I pass. After you submit everything you need if I do pass, how long until you get acceptance? Oh, and what part of Cali are you from?
