Watts School of Nursing - May 2014

Published

I passed the HESI and submitted my application. I got a letter back a week letter saying my application was complete. I also received a background check form. I sent it back with the $40 about a week ago. I haven't heard anything since.

Does anyone know if May 2014 is full yet? If I am accepted, I am really hoping to start in May.

I definitely will.

Hey guys, thought I'd leave you all a little insight into how things go at Watts for the pre reqs. I am currently on class 5/6 out of 8 (History and Pschcology 2)

English- Expect to write a short and a long paper. We never even opened 2 out of 3 of the required books. The pocket style manual has come in handy though.

A&P- LOTS and LOTS of slides and reading, but totally doable. 1 quiz a week and 1 test a week. The teacher was so-so, but had a cool personality.

Math- Easy. Easy. Easy. (not my best subject and still found it easy)

PSY 100. Ten page research paper, tests and a shorter paper.

We are on our 3rd week of PSY 2 and History, and all I can say is exect papers in those too. Lots of reading and testing. Know your American History!!

We haven't started religion or Sociology yet so I can't comment on those.\

We rarely stay until 10, mostly we're out before 9.

Expect to have a school physical(5-6 months into pre reqs), you must be up to date on all major vaccines, or provide titers. You will be required to have a PPD skin test within 3 months of the start of Watts (regular watts, not MO) You will also have to get a BLS certification, but it's free and they tell you when to go to it.

My cohort is going for our uniform fittings next month, and it's looking like I will be paying about $150 for a set of two. (shoes not included, I got those from amazon, they require white, closed toe, leather shoes)

The best advice I can give you is...don't buy your books! Rent if possible, except maybe A&P...I highlighted the Cr*p out of that book.

I hope this helps anyone with questions!

Thank you Rach2610!!! I really appreciate you sharing your experience so far! I am so excited. Would you be willing to share the book you guys used for A & P? I was thinking about getting it early. We start A & P in late August. Good Luck to you and hope to meet you at Watts!!!

No problem! When I started I couldn't find much info and it so frustrated me! The book we used was Essentials of Human

Anatomy &

Physiology, 10e

Elaine N. Marieb

ISBN: 0-321-70728-1

However, you know these things may change!!

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions! Allnurses don't seem to send me an email when there are new posts, so if I don't answer right away don't worry!

Hi Rach2610! Thank you so much for the info, that really does help! I was wondering if you or anyone else can help me with a quick question before I email MOC about it.

In the acceptance letter I have from Watts, it says I need to take:

PSY 100

PSY 240

ENG 111

MTH 121

SOC 210

BIO 253

HIS 223

RELI 200

to meet all the prereq requirements at Watts and qualify for the Associate of Science degree from MOC.

I know that I placed out of English and Math (thank gooooodness) from my previous degree, so I'm taking EDU 265 and ART 110 online to make up for it, but I still don't have PSY 100 or HIS 223 on my schedule.

I'm signed up for 6 classes instead of 8, and I'm just a little confused. Is anyone else registered for those classes?

Oh my gosh, sorry -- I'm being dumb. I just looked at my transcripts on myMOC, and it says I have transfer credit for PSY 100 and History. That explains why I'm just registered for 6 classes instead of 8! Sorry y'all -- Friday brain.

Just ordered my textbook for my first summer online class! Can't wait to see y'all on Thursday!

Hi Everyone,

After several months of procrastination, self doubt, worrying that I am too old to do this and in general getting in my own way, I have scheduled my HESI for 27 Jun. I have bought a couple of study guides and hope to pass this thing and get on with applying to Watts. Hopefully come January, I will be in. Currently I am working as a Tele Monitor tech and before that 21 yrs as a medic in the AF. It does feel good to finally make the decision and take the plunge. Crossing my fingers!

Ok guys...So I sent everything for school...Turns out my high school sent both of my transcripts but one of them ended up being for someone else...So I sent another one and my background check form in again because I left off my previous address (I blame it on me being so nervous)2 Fridays ago...I still haven't heard anything back yet and I'm growing frantic!!! I'm checking my email till 50 times a day...I'm trying not to call the school I don't want to come off as a pest...Do you all think I should wait a few more days or give them a call
