My husband and I are looking to move to the northwest from the midwest at some point. My search has honed in on Tacoma/Puyallup, as the housing costs are a little better than they are closer to Seattle.

Does anyone work at Puyallup/Good Samaritan and have anything to share? I'm interested in hearing the good, the bad, and the ugly!! I'd be looking to work in the Mother-Baby department (it's where I work now at my current hospital), if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!!

Hello Haunani!

I'm not an employee of Multicare Good Samaritan, but I've been a volunteer trainer there for a little more than four years. I bounce around a lot as a trainer (I wanted to experience and gain an understanding of as many different areas of healthcare as I could), and I either train new volunteers and/or spend a lot of time between the ICU, cardiac care, pediatrics, mother/baby or L&D. First and foremost, the healthcare staff is amazing and incredibly passionate about their respective crafts. As a volunteer I try to stay as involved as I can, help when and where I can, and in the past I have felt as though I may be bothersome, asking too many questions, or trying to help too much. Not once has anyone every told me stop, rather they appreciate the eagerness, inquisitiveness, and effort. In short, they're amazing.

With respect to the hospital itself, it is absolutely beautiful. It can be a maze to navigate at times, but you get used to it. Aside from it being aesthetically pleasing, there are also aspects of the architecture that are environmentally conscious, which if I recall correctly, were designed around sustainability, carbon footprint reduction, and efforts to be more 'green'.

I live on South Hill (Puyallup), about 5 minutes away from Good Samaritan, and the community is wonderful. It's not too big, nor is it too small, and everything you could possibly need is within a 5 to 10 minute drive, if not less.

I hope this information helps. Like I said, I'm a volunteer, not an employee, but I can't imagine the answers would be much different.

Good luck in your future endeavors!

Thank you for all of that! That's just the type of information I'm interested in. I care for not only the employee perspective, but also the community's perspective as well.

My clinical hospital during nursing school was very green (corn-based compostable plastics in the cafeteria, for example), so that is certainly a plus for them.

Honestly, any community will be better than where we are currently, which is on the top 10 list for most dangerous cities AND least happy cities. We're a little anxious to get ourselves and our kids out of here!
