Had our state survey and was told that after u wash and dry your hands that you need a fresh towel to turn off faucet!! Was never taught that in nursing school and looked up several sites on the issue and nothing is mentioned. Just asking your advice, being that your hands are already cleaned after washing.

You should also use a towel to open the bathroom door and then throw it away outside the bathroom. There should be waste baskets outside the bathroom doors.

I agree!!! You never know who didn't wash their hands!

I think this is more common sense. It was mentioned to us in fundamentals in nursing school, but I already did it anyway. It defeats the purpose of washing your hands if you touch the faucet! That's why a lot of public places and in the hospital we have motion-sensored or foot pump sinks. That way you don't have to worry about turning off the faucet with your freshly cleaned hands!

At least right at the door. You can open, hold with shoulder, dump towel.
