I've only been working as a nurse for a month now and I'm starting to question whether it was the right choice or not. Some days have been good some have been bad. I'm worried I'm not doing as good as I should be. Anyone else feel like this?

Please don't take this as a flippant answer, but, what were you expecting? Can you identify precisely what is upsetting and analyze if the answer(s) are something you can change or grow into with experience or something else?

Totally normal and expected. It takes about a year to feel comfortable as a new nurse. Your gonna have good days bad days and horrible days. The learning curve is steep. Take it one day at a time. Ask for help when you need it and be kind to yourself. One month in no one expects you to know much of anything. If you are concerned about your progress talk to your supervisors or your preceptor if you have one.

Just think about this... You would feel the same about any job, these feelings are not just unique to learning. You are new to the job, it just takes time. You will continue to have good days and bad days throughout your entire career, sometimes even in the same shift!! You are only one month in, if you are doing 3 shifts a week, that is only 12 days of work in reality. Think about that perspective, after 12 days would you really judge an entire career? No. No job is perfect, no profession is easy. In one or two years from now, someone else will be coming up to you and saying the same thing. Give yourself time, nothing is easy in the first 12 days.

Too soon to be deciding if you can hack it. Takes nine months for full term baby, give yourself at least this much to grow, learn, experience.Go home and read what you do not understand or review what you did well,it is still textbook time. Keep your worries to yourself, the sharks can smell blood and insecurity.I rather you worry than not care or think you know everything.Best of luck, much happiness as a RN.
