Was Anyone Pregnant During Nursing School??

We are actively trying to get pregnant, but there's a chance I could get into nursing school this coming January. I'm worried about being pregnant during nursing school, especially having to give birth in the middle of a semester. Has anyone been through this, and what did you end up having to do? I just don't want to delay nursing school. Let's say if I had a baby during the week in the middle of a semester, and after a few days of recovery.. went back to school... is that physically possible. And can a couple days be made up in nursing school? Any advice, experience, info in this area would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks :)

I'm not even sure if I'll get in this coming January... we'll see what happens. I have a deadline by the end of this month to apply, and I'm getting all my stuff in to the school now. Right now I basically have decided to just go with the flow, and figure things out as it happens. I plan too much, and it's frustrating when plans get all messed up. So we aren't trying hard to get pregnant now, but we aren't preventing it either.

I have similar concerns. I just discovered about 12 hours ago that I am about 5 weeks pregnant with my first child. Even though it was a huge surprise my husband and I are thrilled, but I am getting a bit scared. It appears that my due date is April 25th.

I am about to start my second semester of an accelerated BSN. My due date will be two weeks before finals, but who knows when the baby will actually come! I know I may be jumping the gun, knowing miscarriage rates in the first trimester. I am not too concerned about who will stay home with the baby- my husband is also a student but has more flexibility in scheduling and online classes and we have a great support system. I am concerned about what will happen if I have any complications or a c-section. I know my school does grant leave of absences, but I would really like to stay on track. I would like to hear other people's stories and how it all played out for them- good and bad.

I also want to note, without sounding arrogant, that I have a 4.0 and it all came easily to me. I don't say this to brag or be one of those annoying people. Instead I wanted to give a picture of how I was doing in school pre-pregnancy. I know the course load will get more difficult, but I am optimistic.

I JUST found out I am knocked up with baby number three...due at some time at the end of April early May (no EDD yet). This was not planned nor do I think I would plan on getting pregnant while in school. For ME pregnancy is very had I had hypermesis with both my boys and ended up in the hospital several times with each of them. This time around I had a Copper IUD in place but I'm still pregnant...the chances are higher that I will miscarry due to this. But the OB is telling me so far it looks good...but we all know misscarriages do happen.

It seems I will be due right around semester exams or the start of the summer semester. I'm not happy about this but it is nice to see that it can be done. I don't look forward to the long road of being pregnant and working my butt off in a RN program while I still try to be a good mommy to my 3 and 2 year old boys and a good wife.

I'm only two weeks into the program (and 20k in debt from it) so I don't know how hard it really will be. I did all the pre-req's and pretty much just taking the nsg classes. From what I do know my program is very hard on the students they really really push you (they have a 97% first time pass rate for the NCLEX). I am just praying I am up to this challange. I feel like I can do it but who knows?!

OK...so i totally think i'm pregnant and i start my first semester of nursing school NEXT MONTH... i would only be like 5-7 weeks and it's totally unplanned so the baby would be due mid spring semester march or April and i'm kinda freaking out....they still let yo do clinicals even if your prego right???? I really want to stay on track so that i can gad in may of 2012 regardless of when the baby is born.

There's always a possibility of having to take a semester off, depending on when your baby is born. But you should be able to do clinicals, as long as you have a note and/or whatever is required of your school. I am 38 weeks pregnant and I graduate next Friday.. talk about cutting it close!! I did my clinicals and preceptorship, and I had no problems. Good luck with everything.

Well tHat is defiantly a relief i emailed my advisor and she said i would defiantly be fine with this semester and the next it depends on when the baby's due and how i have her which with my fist daughter i had a C section so i would probably have to do the same thing again which means i can't lift anything heavy...though i was walking with my fist daughter the next day but it was really hard!!! Turns out i might not be pregnant though so i'm taking another test today hopefully it says i'm not ...so wish me luck!!!

I had my second baby at the beginning of my last semester of an accelerated BSN. Back to school 4 days later. Definitely tough. Don't know if I would've been able to do that with my first baby. Good luck to all of you!

I am currently 17 weeks pregnant with my first. This was planned, though we put off TTC until I was ready to take the boards and where my due date would be after I finished my course work for my Masters.

I took the NCLEX in the beginning of July at 12 weeks pregnant and passed with 75 questions. This fall is my final semester and I am due in January-a month after I finish school.

My biggest issue now is finding a job while I am pregnant. I have interviewed and they went well, but I am still waiting on hearing something. I am perfectly okay with it not happening now and picking up my job search after the baby arrives.

My advice is that if you can wait to time a pregnancy/due date til after you pass your boards or past graduation, the less stress you have. I realize not everyone can do this as some struggle to get pregnant. If that is the case, keep trying and let the cards fall where they may. You can still get through nursing school and the boards-just be okay with the fact that it may take a semester or two longer than originally anticipated.
