Wanting to Move to SF. Am I Insane?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi all,

I'm an RN with 4 years of experience. My specialty is CVICU. How likely is it that I will be able to find a job in the Bay Area by the end of December?

I've read all the posts on this board that pertain to relocating to California, but the OPs have been new grads, or RNs with very little experience.

Are experienced RNs having a hard time finding jobs in SF?

with 4 years of experience, you are more likely able to find a job in SF. if not in the city, in the surrounding areas. however, find the job before you move. most employers will give you enough time to move.

Thelilbee, that's for the prompt reply. I definitely plan on finding a job before I move. Over the last few months, I've been getting a little nervous about my desire to start a new life in San Francisco.

Is it too much to hope for a full-time CVICU job?

Everyone has a hard time finding work in the area. Advise you to line up a job before you make the move. Your savings will go fast otherwise. Good luck.

it might be a little harder to find a CVICU job. but if you are willing to do general adult ICU, i think it might be a little easier. you might not be able to find a 1.0 FTE job. i think most are 0.8 or 0.9 right now.

If you are willing to work night shift, you can probably find work in SF. My hospital's CVICU is hiring right now for night shift. I think that there are several positions open. Our general ICU is also hiring on nights. The caveat is that they are only offering 8 hour shifts (32 hrs/wk).
