Hi rachel224. I'm not from England, but I'm sorry that you did not get accepted to the program of your choice. It's very painful indeed to be rejected for anything. But, rachel, you're not a failure. Don't let your self-worth be dictated or defined by whether you are accepted or rejected in this life. You will experience rejection and acceptance at the hands of human beings as long as you live. That's why for me, it is important to believe in a Higher Power that never rejects me. It makes it easier for me to get over the pangs of rejection and failure.

Now, after sharing my beliefs, I will write you that you have plenty of choices. You must not allow the school you went to to hold you in mental bondage. You have to decide that if you can't get through the front door that there are other doors, windows, chimneys to get through. I suggest that you discuss your dilemma with a career counselor for options. If you know other nurses in pediatrics, you could talk with them. It may be that you need to find something else of interest to do and then try to enter the program again. Best wishes.

Do not let the opinions of one person or place dictate your life!! Perhaps you are not meant to go that particular school, however there are other places out there. I'd call the person who told you, you aren't qualified and find out why they feel that way- if it's a legitimate reason, then you can go about rectifying it, if it's not- then you can move on to another school,etc...

Just remember what one person thinks is garbage is another person's treasure!! If you want it-pursue it!! Good luck and keep your chin up!

Rachel224, Don't be put off. Child nursing is very hard to get into. If it was practical knowledge that you were lacking then you could try to get a job as a health care assistant, this way you gain experience of general duties. Just because you didn't get in this time doesn't mean that you won't get in next time. Please dont give up, show them what you're made of.

I think that it is awesome just the fact that you are 18 yrs old and have enough direction and forethought into your future to want to go into that field. I can remember when I was 18 and the only direction I had was what club or boy to go out with the next weekend. Alot of times people associate young age with immaturity, so that may be the obstacle you are up against. Keep trying and follow your dreams. No matter if you get into that particular field or not, eventually you will end up where you are needed and need to be.

Rachel -- hang in there! Listen to the great advice other nurses have given you. DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR DREAM! You do seem to have direction and have earned excellent grades. Perhaps you need to take prerequisite courses. After being a stay-at-home mom for years, I decided to go to nursing school. However, I needed to take prerequisite courses. The first day of my Anatomy class, my professor told me to quit because I would most likely fail -- I brushed it off & realized she did not know me or what I was capable of. I graduated at the top of my nursing class (ADN) and recently graduated with my BSN. If I had taken her advice, I'd be on a much different career path. I was determined to be a nurse -- and I was prepared to work through any obstacle to do this. Hang in there -- find some positive support for yourself. Nursing school is challenging -- ask any nurse -- it makes you a stronger person. We need young, ambitious blood in nursing or nursing will shrivel up -- do it for you -- hang in there!

There is a great shortage out there!!!! Go figure heh? If this is something you really want to do then maybe it is a test how just how bad you want this career. Don't give up your dream because of one persons view and someone who doesn't even know you. Try again at another facility. Preserverance, where there is the will there is a way. WE need you.

Rachel I can't believe they said you did not have enough knowledge to get into nursing. Was that just an excuss, if you were interviewed did it go well, was your application form ok ?. I would write to the school of nursing and ask them the exact reason you were rejected. Did you take GCSEs and O levels ? If you did I cannot see how they can turn you down on that basis unless you did not have a science and maths pass. I completed PK2000 in Feb 2000 at Middlesex University and the only criteria I had before I started was an Access to Health Study course. I never had a single GCSE/O or A level or any experience with hospital work. Don't be put off i'm sure you have more than enough knowledge to enter nursing. If they won't except you it's their loss go to another school of nursing. GOOD LUCK when you make ward sister you can write again and tell them how wrong they were!

I have 8 passes at GCSE and hope i will pass my A levels. it must have been my personality they did not like.

I got a confirmation letter this morning saying that i was unsuccessful in getting onto the course, that kind of upset me again.

i might take a year or so out and get a job and try again later.But, i must say when i came out of that interview i felt so humiliated, it will be hard to go back for another one any time soon.

Hi Rachel, If you still want to go into nursing don't take a year out try somewhere else. Like I said earlier it will be their loss. Good luck.
