Waitlists in Washington

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hi There;

I live in California and am in my last semester of completing the prerequisites for most nursing programs. However, when it comes to applying to actual programs, things become difficult and most programs have waiting lists that can go on for three years, regardless of grades. Are you experiencing the same things in Washington? My husband and I would be willing to move if it meant completing my education in a better time frame. Any feedback that you have as to the climate of programs and education in Washington would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

For the major universities (public and private) they take applicants every year. Some of the local community colleges start quarterly. Those programs are actually much more competitive due to the low numbers that they take, so your GPA needs to be much higher. For example, the UW gets about 400 sometimes up to 500 applicants, they take 96 total... much better chances that 300 applicants for 30 spots at a local CC up here...

For the Universities up here the deadlines are over for Fall '12 entrance, the good things is though, no wait lists for years. If you don't make it, reapply next year. You get some feedback on where you went wrong from some of the schools is my understanding. I am a first year applicant but have researched thoroughly my options...

Best of luck

PLU is a private university up in the Tacoma area. They have people starting in the fall and spring. I've heard that people get in even after the deadline.

Tacoma CC accepts applications every quarter. They have lottery system, so once you have applied to the school and been accepted you can apply to the nursing program. They post the lottery results on their website every quarter. So if you dont get in the first time, apply again.

Hope that helps! :cool:

The only thing about universities in Washington, is they only reserve a certain amount of seats for transfers. I know SPU only takes 10 transfers out of 40 total, and UW takes 10-15. It is getting more and more competitive every year! Are you referring to waiting lists at community colleges perhaps?
