waiting list for Trinitas Hospital School of Nursing / Newark area nursing schools?

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi, everyone:

I live in Newark, currently I am studying for a professiona license required by the job. I will be done in the Summer, I wish to go into nursing program in September. But I heard there is naturally average 2 -year waiting list for nursing programs? I am really worried.

I have a BA in other field already. I am thinking going to a community college ASD. Those acceralted programs requires full-time, and is not possible for me. Tuition is also a big issue, I cannot afford to go to private schools like Seton Hall, Bloomfiled, nor public schools like Rutger. Also I worked during the day, so I cannot go to Essex County College either, they only have day program.

My question is: I mostly interested in Trinitas Hospital school of nursing. Anybody know any waiting list there at Union County College?

BTW, I need to take almost all the pre-rquisite courses, so if there is a waiting list, can I take these pre-requisites during waiting time? or do I have to wait to take these courses too?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

hi,

i would recommend prof sand and prof oskov for ap1/2. i took sand for lecture and oskov for lab two semesters in a row. they are good. at least in my experience. i took micro in the summer and i hated it. quizzes every time you go to class. blah. i dont know how the other science courses run in the summertime.

130 isn't as intense as the other courses. i was sent the letter to start 130 in the spring, but defered til the fall, so i could get all my science courses done. thats just me. you only know whats best for you. I'm in 231 now. good luck with everything.

Thank you very much, I have decided to defer until the fall for nure 130 and I wll just take chemistry this semester. I wll try to get a&p1 n the summer1 and a&p2 in summer 2. If I do not make it to summer registration on time i may defer again or I will co req A&p1 with Nure 130.

By the way how do you feel about Trinitas the program itself

well, I haven't been through any other programs, so I can't really compare. But, if I didn't have this much invested in Trinitas, I would go to a different program. I find the faculty in this program to be very unhelpful, and even interested in seeing you fail. The only thing they really care about is their 100% NCLEX (on the first try) pass rate for their 232 their graduates. This means many many good students are made to fail, and must repeat classes to be successful. Just look at the success rate comparing all those that enter 131 (forget about 130), against the number that actually graduate from 232. Maybe you should ask for those statistics...I can't believe Trinitas would EVER give them to you. Many faculty are unapproachable, and will not give you direct answers to simple questions. The approach is go figure it out yourself. Though some full-time faculty are quality, many many of the adjunct faculty are sub-par. There is no free-flow of information to allow you to plan your progress through the program. You can never get information about what to expect in the next course(s). You have to pass the one you are in, then register for the next, and get information. Sometimes the rumors you hear are true, but even students ahead of you are afraid to give you details about what they just went through for fear they will be caught. The program is completely unorganized (Have you experienced the free-for-all registration process for 130 or 131? They can't even hand out the correct slides in lecture! They can be counted on to loose your medical clearance documentation all the time...Be certain to ALWAYS keep copies). And just remember, the program/faculty ARE NEVER WRONG...SO DON'T EVEN TRY TO BE REASONABLE WITH THEM.

Is it too much to take a&p1 chemistry and nure 130 in one semester

I attend union county and trinitas. Which teachers do you guys reccomend for a&p1 and chemistry. Anyone can answer this for me who attends Union county. Please help

It wasn't too much for me, I took a&p1, micro and nure 130 together. I was busting my butt of the whole semester but ended with B+, B and a C+ so not bad considering the material covered. You really need to be able to devote a lot of time to this if you want to take them together, good luck!

for a&p take Sand, she is really good!

Thank you so much for replying cookie monster. So what nursing class are you in now. By the way I ended up making changes and decided to take chem 105 this semester. I will take a&p1 in summer 1, and a&p2 in summer 2. I'll start nure 130 in the fall 08 and take it with psy 101

I'm starting 132 on Thursday, from what I have heard it's not going to be easy!

Well, the 132 material itself is not harder than the 131 material. If you understood the 131 material, you have the ability to understand the 232 material. However in 132, they throw 3 times as much material at you...in the same period. Generally speaking, the first two exams are harder than the second two tests. 231....that's a whole different world of harder. Only about 50% of your class will pass and move on to 231. It's planned that way. GOOD LUCK! I will be here to answer any questions you have.

It's true a diploma-only option is offered. All that means is that you don't need to take all the rest of the associate's requirements (non-nursing/non-nursing prereq's) for Union County College. You get to sit for for the NCLEX, and become an RN, and do not get an AS degree. It is true that (aside from the prereq's) there are only 5 nursing courses. The first is offered in the summer the rest only durning regular semesters...the five courses must be taken in sequence. It does take 2.5 yrs to complete. It's unbelievably difficult, with instructors who are un-helpful, and eager for you to fail. My class started with 250 students...aprox 25 will graduate 5 classes later. It is also NOT a weekend only program. All must be prepared to take multiple weeknight classes. It is also, on average about 5,000 dollars per course.

do u have to ask advisors about the diploma option? b/c i went to UCC (im a student at another colleget) to talk to someone abt the nursing program but she never mentioned anythin abt a diploma......she just told me all about the nonnursing courses i would have to take along with the 5 nursing courses?...i already have a pysch degree and have all the nursing pre reqs....i really dont want to take any other non nursing courses if i dont have to.....do u know if this diploma program is still offered at UCC?..............thanx

The diploma option is still offered. I don't know why your advisor didn't offer any advise. Sometimes you do have to get to the right person. You should call, and specifically ask about the diploma option. you can transfer all the nursing pre-reqs if you have taken them and gotten a C or better. however, any lab courses need to be completed in the last 7 years (i think).

Well first off, you can fail an exam or two, and still make-up the "points" and still pass. Don't be too discouraged yet. If I remember correctly, the first two exams in 132 are the hardest. They just hit you with twice as much information than they gave you for any one test in 131. I always found the trick to be to read the questions, and try to determine what concept they are trying to test. Then go with that answer when you look at the choices. Don't read all the choices...they are worded to confuse you and make you choose another answer than the one you thought the question was testing. Does this make sense? Also, don't overthink the question.

I will say that their "review/study" sessions held prior to the tests are worthless. Don't waste your time. But that said, sometimes group study does work. Get a few friends together, and toss concepts and questions around.

Good luck for the next one!
