Waiting list for Community College

Published

What is the averge wait time for the local Community Colleges?

If I apply to the program in July/August 2009 when could I expect to start?

I applied in Oct 2005. I started block 1 in July 2007. It was a 4 semester wait for me. But not for everyone - there were 4 of us that put our applications in the same date/time...we even walked over there together! One got in the very next semester, another one the following, then the last two of us got in for Fall 2007. Thankfully it was worth the wait - and I graduate this May :yeah: From what I've heard is now the waiting list has doubled since I applied because they have taken off some of the pre-reqs, some have also been make co-reqs so you can finish them while you're waiting...I didn't have that option so just spent 2 years waiting and working.... Best of luck!

congrats snarfgirl on graduating soon!

i was just wondering what program you are graduating from; i think i read from one of your posts that you said gcc. is that glendale or gateway, or am i wrong all together? either way could you please shed some light (for some of us waiting for fall 2009 placement) on how you felt about your program.

specifically your level of preparedness, schedule, clinical rotations, and hospitals you worked with.

thank you in advance for your reply.

Thanks! I go to Glendale Community College, weekend program. I have likes and dislikes. Our class inparticular has had lots of ups and downs, and lots of faculty changes so I'm probably not the best person to ask..lol.

It's been frustrating at times because we've felt we have taught ourselves alot of the info - and other instructors have been wonderful. I loved every minute of clinicals. We have been to several different hospitals. Dell Webb, St. Joes, J.C. Lincoln, Va Hospital, Banner T-bird and Banner Estrella. Block one is all long term care and we went to two different nursing homes. Schedules are subject to change at any time - word of advice - you have to be flexible....and get study groups that you work well with.....Because I am in the weekend program we have class all day Fridays, then clinical all day Saturday. There are on occasion times when we have to do stuff that is manditory outside of class times. Each semester I had to decrease the amount of time I worked due to the content increasing and exams becoming harder....Um...I think that's about all I can think of...Good luck! PM me if you have any questions! :nuke:

how long did you wait to get into the rn program? U did the LVN to RN career ladder which is 2 semesters? Thanks!

I just turned my application in today at GWCC. As I was walking out, I said "well, hopefully I will be able to start in 2 years.." then the adviser told me no, it's more like 2 or 3 semester wait. So who knows... I do think it highly depends on the choices of schools you pick. I am not sure if there are any other factors involved.. but that seems to the biggie.

Just curious.. did you applied for NS this summer? What schools did you pick! It would be great to start a thread for those of us that put our application in this summer and see what happens! Good luck to you! :typing

I was time stamped in October of 2008 and they told me to expect a 3 semester wait. As of now I am still waiting... I did put down all 5 choices. A friend of mine who was time stamped in June of 2008 has not been placed yet either. She also selected 5 choices.

Patientlywaiting, just curious, did you turn in your application at GWCC also by any chance?

I would much rather be told 2 years then be pleasantly surprised if I did get in sooner. It's no fun being told sooner.. then having to wait much longer than expected. But you know, my gut feeling has always been 4+ semesters from reading everyone's posts. Please keep me posted & let us know when you & your friend get in! We'll all celebrate with you!!!

Just curious what are your 5 choices? Mine, although it really doesn't matter for a while.. are 1) GWCC 2) GWCC accelerated 3) PC 4) GCC 5) PC accelerated

Take care and best of luck to you!

Hi Lizzyru

I turned my application in at Chandler-Gilbert, but I don't think it much matters where you turn it in. I have moved my choices around based on the number of seats available at each campus. I am pretty much willing to travel to GCC or even Boswell if that means getting in a little sooner. My friend, who was time stamped in June of 2008 is only willing ot go as far as GWCC. She lives in Mesa and does not want to travel that far. I have been told ( don't know if it is true) that it takes longer to get into the East Valley campuses because more students are listing them as their choices. I will keep you posted. Good Luck to you as well!

Anyone out there that was time-stamped June of 2009 get in for the Spring Semester? If so, which college(s) did you have on your list and which one did you get into? I'm trying to figure out where they are as far as placements for each college. Thanks so much!
