Waiting for Harper!!

Good Luck to You! I am at Harper but I'm still working on I guess co-reqs. I'm trying to get those out of the way first hoping it'll give me a little edge. Do you have and idea about where you sit as far as who they are accepting?

Sorry I have no Idea where I sit for harper. I just know that I have several points coming to me because I took majority of the classes required. So your taking co-reqs? Isn't math the only course requiring that? You should just take the placement. I thought it was fairly easy. Do you know any nursing students at harper currently? and if so do you know what they received on their NLN scores? Thanks

It may take a couple of days for the ladies here to respond but I think there are 2 or 3 that went to Harper. If you look back at posts from a couple months ago you can see and maybe post directly to them. That's when I first came on here looking for any info and advice. I've taken Speech 101, Psycology 101, and I'm currently in Chemistry 100 because a adviser strongly recommended it for getting into the program even though it wasn't required. I'm going to take Psycology 228 and Sociology 101 in the Summer. What have you taken? What did you get on the NLN? I did hear that at CLC that if you called the office they would tell you the lowest score they took into the program. I'm not sure if Harper will do that? There were a bunch of posters from CLC that just started their nursing program but none from this semester from Harper.

clc's lowest nln score for this semester start was 92

Wow is CLC typically harder to get into than harper? I know Harper adds points to candidates who took some type of pre-reqs which helps me out somewhat but I guess it goes for everyone applying for Harper.

i'm not sure what "points" are but clc requires chemistry and biology before starting and a & p, micro, soc., psych, multicult. communications and humanities credits while you're in the program. 90% of the nursing students take all of the classes prior to starting due to the intensity of the actual nursing classes. once you've met your requirements they accept the top 60 nln scores each semester. rumor has it that there are 400 applicants each semester. not sure if it's true but it's very competitive. good luck.

i was in clc's program, but i'm taking a little time off. the scores go up and down with the semesters, between 88-93% usually, depending on who they have screening at which times. however, it's different than harper because with clc, you have to have biology, chemistry and math 102 (or a satisfactory math placement score) done with at least a "c" in all classes, and then you are chosen according to your nln score only. i don't like that they do that because you could have passed all of your previous classes with a 4.0 average, but if you don't score high enough on the test, you have no chance of getting in. and vice-versa, you could be a horrible student, "c's" in all of those other classes, and get in if you are lucky enough to get a high test score! i think they may be changing that soon... anyway, good luck with harper! they do have a better program than clc, which shows by the high percentage of graduates who pass the nclex.

Hey all. I'm one of those Harper ladies - so any questions you have feel free to throw my way. I'm on my second semester of the Nursing program there. They are doing admissions a lot differently this semester, and from talking to some of the students it does sound really competitive. I know last year they said about 1300 students applied (i know it sounds like a HUGE number, but I asked a few teachers about it and that's what they all said). So first off a HUGE CONGRATS! :yeah: to ANYONE who gets in! (i know letters are coming soon) and for anyone who doesn't, don't sweat it, you can always try again next year - the program isn't going anywhere. From the people I've talked to, I've been hearing scores ranging from 98-107 (including the points given for classes completed). I only got an 89 on my NLN, but that's when they were also including GPA into admissions. Granted I've only talked to a handful of people (maybe 10ish) and they have 120 spots, so don't get discouraged if you don't have a perfect score. My other BIGGEST advice is don't give up if you get put on the wait list. I did. I was wait-listed when i got my first letter in march, and I was crushed - cried for like 3 days straight. I finally got myself back together, started looking into classes and other schools and different opitions, then got a letter April 4th (my hubby's bday) saying a spot had opened up. Greatest letter of my life - so far! So everyone have hope and don't chew your fingers off too much while you're waiting for your letter, once you get it you won't be able to open it anyways! :) Again, if anyone has any specific questions please feel free to PM me!

I also got my acceptance letter yesterday! I was SO happy until I read the bottom part of the letter. They are making changes and from those I have spoke to, you have to have your CNA BEFORE begining the program. So that means over the summer. We'll see at this meeting! Congrats again!
