I don't know where you are, but here in sad sad Detroit metro, there's a good ADN program @a comm college and I often hear people at breaks talk about being on the waitlist or OMG there's a two year waitlist...I was worried at first becasue I though I was misinformed...there IS no waiting list here. I was told this by my Advisor and it also says so right in bold on our application. I dbl chkd and I was correct; I am so surprised at the few ppl I've met at break, etc, that don;t seem to be talking to advisors. a few already that I've met have so many credits, have taken A&P over and over and yet still were waiting becasue they say they didn't know that they needed the intro HE class, for instance. so, dbl chk on that becasue you never know if you don't ask the right ppl. We had over 600 that applied for 90 seats from what I was told last year though so its still crazy hard..Yay..I would dbl chk with your advisor or nursing program our RN program and good luck:)
Here in the Denver area, there is a 2-3 YEAR waiting list to some, if not most, of the CC programs. I am having to look at private schools, although VERY expensive in comparison, have a minimal or no wait list....depending on the school. I think the cost is the deciding factor for most people - some people just can't justifying 40k for their BSN (although one local program is 42k for an ADN!).
I'm here in San Diego and have been on a waitlist for 2 years! Nursing schools here require hard work and a lot of PATIENCE (as with anywhere else). I have worked hard, and I am now remaining patient. I applied to my local community college 2 years ago because it is a really reputable school and affordable. The wait is worth it to me because I know I am going to receive a quality education and I can afford it! So in regards to your question, no I was not accepted the within the same year I applied. In fact they told me it was a 3 year wait and it is in fact a 3 year wait! I was hoping for early admission, but I had no such luck. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide, and in the end it will all be worth it! Just do what you feel is best for YOU! Go with your heart! (That's what I did, and I'm not regretting it)
FCCJ does not have a wait list but they do have an 'alternates' list. This is used when someone is accepted initially but cannot actually be accepted. (ie: popped hot on the drug test, had a conviction the BON most likely will not allow, situation changed, etc.)
Even though I was laid off of my FT job, I would not move to Columbia SC (for a job opportunity) because the DO have a waitlist and last I heard it was over a year. By the time I would start NS there, I would have my RN here.
Here in NW Arkansas, NWACC (comm. coll.) recently had 300 applicants for its 40-slot Fall class. It's crazy. They are so painfully short on educators and funding that they can only take about 75 per year, divided between Fall and Spring.
The only other RN program right in my area is the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (where I live), with the BSN. NWACC is the ASN. Then there's NTI that offers a 2 year LPN, that can be matched with NWACC's LPN to RN track. And all of these places have phenomenal demand.
I'm wanting to get into NWACC to do my RN. It will be at least a couple of years before I can, though, because I've got to move up there (huge decrease in tuition), get a steady job and income to save up, and get all my Gen Ed done. I kind of wish I could apply now just to get my name in the hat.
Hey, I don't know if this will help anyone, but I found a scholarship site from Johnson & Johnson and they have a list of "no wait" schools on it. You would probably have to contact each school to see if they are actually still a no-wait school, but for what it's worth:

has anyone had any luck with wait lists? if so, how long did you end up waiting before you were told that there was a spot for you in the program? obviously, schools differ as to the number of wait listed students they have, but i was just curious if anyone has ever been accepted the same year they were wait listed.
