There is a nursing school in Denver that has no wait list because they have many start dates throughout the year. Also, they don't have a wait list because many students decline to go there because it is a lot more expensive then say a community college school. The tuition for the two year BSN is almost $37,000. At the c.c. I'm at right now, I would pay about $8-9,000 for the program, but end up with an associates, not a bachlors.
My question for everyone is: Would I be worth it to you to spend the extra money to get into a program quicker or would you wait? And would it also be worth it to if you knew you would end up with a bachelors instead of an associates?
Thank for your input!
think of it this way....
Cost of Private 37K yr
Cost of CC 5Kyr
Difference of time 3 yrs=32K
Would you wait 3 yrs to go to CC is someone were willing to PAY YOU 11K a yr, or give you 32K at the en:up:d of the 3 yr wait? That's a whole LOT of money to have to pay back.
Add the 9% interest each yr over 10yrs, you'll be paying back nearly 50K
Wouldn't you rather wait, take courses towards your Bachelors and gift yourself 50K
Buy yourself a nice new car when you graduate instead!
Where can you go in CA with no waiting list to RN school?
Lots of California Community Colleges don't go by wait lists. Perhaps even most. Some are merit-based, some are lottery, some are a combination of one of those three systems. I don't believe any of the BSN programs have wait lists, though I could be wrong about that.
There are no CA schools that I know of where you're guaranteed to get in with no wait as long as you meet minimum requirements, if that's what you mean.

Unrelated, but I continue to feel glad that I live where I do. We have 3 schools in my area that do nursing programs and only around 500000 people that live in this area. My cc is entirely wait list based with only having to passed prereqs with a 2.5. The wait is about 6 months. I, naturally, intend to try to get A's regardless, but moving anywhere else right now would be a stupid thing for me to do.

But the OP has to factor in how much s/he would make as a nurse during an additional 3 years of employment versus how much s/he would make doing something else while waiting. That could tip the balance; it all depends on the numbers.

$37,000 is awfully expensive. I know I wouldn't want to pay on that especially when you think about the interest that it will build.
Here are some positives of Associate degree Nursing I know from first hand.
I don't know where you live but here in VA I am making exactly the same as as the new BSN nurses.
I can apply to get $3,000 tuition assistance at the intuition where I am working and there are separate scholarships available for when I start BSN classes.
I will have gotten a 3 yrs bacholers, its not 2 yrs but is sure beats the traditional 4yr BSN.
Also, an ADN nurses takes the same boards and have the same responsibilities and a BSN nurse. I am so glad with the decision I made. I applied to nursing school for two yrs before I was accepted. In the end it doesn't matter to me because I am finally doing what I have always dreamed of :)
