Hello - This is my first post, although I've been a frequent guest. I've been on the waiting list for the RN program at a local community college for nearly two years. It was almost certain that I would finally be entering the program this August, but I found out today that I went from number 30 on the list (a guaranteed space) to number 34, because some "returning" students were placed at the top of the wait list by the director of the program. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this common practice?

Hi and welcome to AllNurses.com.
I can't answer your question because my choice school doesn't have a waitlist. I just wanted to say it probably is normal.
However, don't give up hope! You could still get in because you don't know how many won't be able to take a seat....especially after waiting for a couple of years! OUCH!
Good luck, and I hope you find some good information here. :)
Thank you Fun2Care!

I'm pretty sure my community college doesn't do this. It doesn't sound fair to me. I start in August also and I've been on the waitlist since finishing my prereqs in last May. Hopefully you will be able to start in August as some individuals may not enter as planned, i.e. got too tired of waiting and went somewhere else, etc. etc. Good luck to you!

i don't know if this would help in your case, but are there any tests you could re-take to try to raise your position? Or a class you could re-take for a better grade? Sorry I don't have better advice. Goodluck!
