Waco area hospitals

Howdy All,

We just bought a house in Clifton TX., 35 miles NW of Waco. I will be driving to Dallas for a few months while I complete a contract there, but I would like some information about Waco hospitals. Which hospitals are considered good and which ones would you not go near for whatever reason. What is the pay scale like down there, are 12 hour shifts available or do they just do 8's.

Thanks,

Craig

Clifton...wow, what a cute little town. I once lived and Clifton. We really like it. Goodall-Witcher Hospital is a good little hospital and you might even consider it with the cost of gas and all. I know one of the administrators there if you PM me. ALSO, Waco has two major hospitals. Hillcrest Baptist and Providence. Both are Medium to Large facilities with pros and cons. My wife worked at Hillcrest for a while and really like it. The pay will be about 2-5 bucks less than DFW...probably. You know how that goes, with a great resume, you can eek some more out of them. I know you will like the community, it is a great town. In considering your choice of the two Waco hospitals, I would say pay them each a visit. There is a nursing school in Waco and three nursing schools in the Temple/Killeen area, so they are rarely desperate for nurses but seem to always have openings. Take care, hope that helped a little. Oh, yeah, don't speed through Valley Mills :}

Thanks CSLee,

I knew there were a few nursing programs in the area and I wondered how that would impact my job search. I haven't really heard anything negative about either hospital, just the usual complaints that any given hospital has. I will put in some applications and see what happens.

Thanks,

I work at Hillcrest in oncology, 7p-7a. Have been there for 5 years. As most hospitals go, I think, Hillcrest has ups and downs. We seem to be on the upswing.

There are several openings right now in several areas, and they also have 2 options for float pool. There is a "full-time" float pool, in which you get paid same as you would if you worked only one unit, same benefits, etc, but you go wherever they need you. The "prn" pool gets paid more but no benefits, and you also go where needed.

PM me if you would like specifics or decide to go there! Would love to meet you!
