Long story short, I'm currently taking a statistics course, which as most of you should know is a pre-requisite for nursing and I'm not doing very well. This quarter has been quite tough for me with my family going through a recent loss, so it's been hard flying back and forth from home while maintaining my grades. After getting my second midterm back I know that it is near impossible for me to even manage a C in my statistics course, so I am stuck with the decision of either receiving a failing grade or withdrawing for the class.
If I receive a failing grade, my university allows me to retake the class so that the new grade will be calculated into my GPA but the failing grade won't. Rather, the failing grade will just be shown beside the new grade. My other option is to withdraw with a W on my transcript and retake the class again. The W will still be displayed on the transcript as well.
I read that Ws on transcripts were fine so long as there aren't a lot, but since this is a pre-requisite, I was thinking that it would matter more. I'm really worried about this and that it might slim my chances of going into an ABSN program greatly. :/
Thank you for your help in advance!

Just slightly off topic but... Can you explain how you have F's but never actually failed? Seems like a contradiction..
I wondered the same thing. Maybe she meant that she didn't fail with effort expended, but failed because of goofing off. One thing to fail when you've tried hard and done your best or near your best, but another thing to fail because you just didn't put much into it.
I see your point but an F is an F. It means you failed no matter how you try to rationalize it.I wondered the same thing. One thing to fail when you've tried hard and done your best or near your best, but another thing to fail because you just didn't put much into it.
I don't know why I added that last part in about never failing.. it's irrelevant to my question...Perhaps it was my subconscious trying to pacify my ego. Anyway, to an admissions committee an F is an F. I should have dropped the classes, but I was dumb and irresponsible. I have never failed a class by taking every exam and subsequently receiving a failing grade.

At my school you could apply to have bad grades removed from your transcript if your current grades reflect that you are now a serious student. Then it won't reflect on your GPA.
Your transcript will list the class and have "missing grade".
If the nursing school asks about it, tell them the truth.
Many students start college, fail, and go back when they are more ready, or circumstances improve.. They won't hold it against you and likely will admire your determination to buckle down and improve.:yelclap:
Do they still give "I" grades? When I was in college you could take an incomplete and take up to 2 quarters to retake the class without paying again. You just had to get the instructor to sign a form agreeing to have you back. After a certain date you couldn't officially withdraw from a class, I think if it was more than halfway through the quarter.
