I'm a brand new RN and I'm volunteering at the upcoming Houston Marathon and USA fit marathons this month.
In the Houston Marathon, I'll be in the minor medical tent, so I know I'll be somewhat supervised since I will be mixed in with nursing students, but at the USA fit marathon, I will be one of 4 RNs from my understanding.
What are some things I should expect? I'm a little nervous that I will be expected to just "know" what to do or how to triage someone. I feel I can safely and competently do assessments, start IV's and the minor things, and the overseeing medical doctor is my own PCP ironically so I feel comfortable with consulting him with what I should be doing, but my question is how much am I going to be expected to know? I'm afraid of flying solo since I just got my wings.
