Visa screens?? Australian nurse wanting to work in USA

Hi all,

I'm a nurse from Australia and am undertaking the LOOONNGG process of getting my nursing reg to the states. I'm planning on working in Colorado. I have to do 2 courses to make up hours in paeds and obstetrics, and then i'm planning on applying to Vermont (Q1. Is vermont good to go through?) Also from there I will sit the NCLEX, Q2. it doesn't matter what state I sit the NCLEX in does it?

Q 3. I've just come across visa screens and have no clue what this is?? can anyone give me some info?

Q4. After I sit the NCLEX, whats the process in order to work in the US? Is all I have to do is find a hospital to sponsor me (or go through an agency?) Is there much paperwork to do after I have sat the NCLEX?

Any advice would be appreciated, I'm feeling very overwhelmed!!!

CVS is required by NY BON and that is done with CGFNS. You complete the paperwork as set out on CGFNS website and they do all the running around and sending for the information. Takes approx 6-8 months on average but if documentation is returned quickly then can be done in less. You send your application to NY BON once CVS is complete plus you have to do the 2 courses that is a requirement of NY BON

Once all sorted you will also need to get a VSC

hi!

can somebody help me with some infos please??? will able to apply for a working visa in the us if i get permanent residency in australia?

i am preparing for nclex while my student visa for australia is on the process. i plan to gain experience as a nurse in australia then maybe later on head off to us. i am a filipino.

i am having this dilema as the filipino nurses have been affected by the retrogression in the us. we can hardly get a visa from here in the phil.

You need to make a commitment to Australia not just use it as a way of getting a visa to work in the US.

I agree - Australia does not want people who become PRs or citizens in order to gain entry to the US.

Please don't get me wrong. I am going to Australia to do brdiging course and practice nursing.

However, I also would like to work in the United States sometime in the future. But since I plan to stay in Australiafor good I might as well get the visa there instead of coming back to the Philippines. Well those are the possibilities that I'm looking to.

I'm new here and need some help. I'm planning to study Nursing in Australia (I'm an Australian citizen) and go to Texas to practice as a Registered Nurse. However, the Texas BON website states that I have to have 2-year work experience before I can take the NCLEX-RN. This is disheartening to me especially because I don't have two years to waste (I am already a mature-age person) and would like to start my career as an RN in Texas as quickly as I can. Also, different Nursing schools in Australia offer different curriculum, which makes me worried whether or not they will meet US standard of education. Does anyone know what other schools (besides Deakin) in Australia whose curriculums are recognized or accepted by U.S. I am planning to immigrate to the U.S. after getting my Nursing degree from Australia. I'm not sure whether I should use E-3 or H-1B visa. I understand the basics and benefits of these visas, but I don't know anyone who has successfully immigrate from Australia to the U.S. under E-3 or H-1B and received his/her greed card. My eventual goal is to immigrate to the U.S. by getting a green card first. Please help.

The following information is listed on the Texas BON's website:

E) All international applicants must provide proof of working in nursing for a period totaling two (2) years (i.e. 24 months) at anytime after graduation from a nursing program.

F) If you have not worked at least two (2) years as a first level, general nurse within the four (4) years preceding the filing of the application, you will not be licensed until you complete a Foreign Educated Nurse (FENS) refresher course consisting of 120 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours of clinical practice under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The applicant required to take the FENS refresher will be given a six (6) month permit to complete the refresher course.

So, based on the information above, I think any new nursing graduate from foreign countries may find a difficulty in satisfying the above requirements. Obviously the new graduates would not have the 2-year experience since they just graduate from school. Do you have any suggestion on how to tackle this issue? Also, may I know in what state are you currently working?
