Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.
It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.
The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.
The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

thank you!
Yes, I had to pay the Florida Board of Nursing an additonal $25.00 us for them to forward my results to CGFNS
so that they would complete my Visa Screen.
I found work in Dunedin Florida, but still working on completion of my TN, as I am not ready to go just yet
will be ready by the end of Oct. as my Orientation date is set for Nov 9th.....providing all paper work for the border crossing is complete and they accept it.

I applied to CGFNS in March of 08 submitted all documentation, paid for a Visa Screen ( not knowing that the Visa Screen was too early to apply for BUT I paid the money and they took it...) then, once CGFNS finished with the professional application, they then forwarded it to the Florida Board of Nursing and then the FBON, gave me the application Number to sit for the NCLEX exam at Pearson Vue....once I wrote the exam and passed, the results sent to the FBON, "YOU" then have to pay an additional $25.00 for them to send the result of your NCLEX to CGFNS, who then process your Visa Screen. ( I did not know that I had to pay and extra fee for this process, so I waited another 2 months before I called Florida and CGFNS till I found out what happened.)
So CGFNS had my money for the Visa Screen for almost 1 year...
I wrote the NCLEX exam in Nov.08 and the Visa Screen was issued to me Feb 09
I hope you can understand the chain of events that happened, and now I am in the process of applying for a TN Visa to work in Florida
I have jumped through so many hoops, that I feel I am at my last straw
Hope this helps you
Sincerely
C
