Visa Screen Certificate / CGFNS

World Registration

Published

Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

(This thread is replacing the original thread that was from more than 2 and 1/2 years ago, and has updated information.)

Please do not consider coming to the US via a tourist visa and staying. There are no visas for you to be able to work. There are no working visas, the only thing available is the green card. And they are under retrogression.

And it is in violation of US Immigration Law to have dual intent.

What went on last year was last year, things have changed dramatically since then. You need to have completed the English exams and have a Visa Screen Certificate in hand for a petition to even be submitted for you, if there are visas. And there are not any.

And then you would be considered trying to jump ahead of everyone else, and that is not a good thing to do. There are many that wish to work in the US, and no reason that anyone should think that they can just come here on a tourist visa and stay. Please do not do that.

thank you Silverdragon.

until now i have no idea regarding visa thing.

so how long does visa screen certificate take?

and if you have a hospital that petitions you, how long?

would it be the hospital who will do all the work for you or what are my responsibilities?

thanks!!

I suggest you have a good read on here especially threads on retrogression. There is no quick way to get to the US and like Suzanne and myself have mentioned there are no quick ways to go through the process and at the moment it is find employer and they file for I140 and wait patiently at home.

Getting VSC takes approx 4 months and that is as long as they receive all your documents in a timely manner and your NCLEX results are set to them by the BON once you have passed and paid the fee for the transfer of results.

Please do not use your tourist vias and stay in the US it is not fair on the rest of us who are going through the CP route and been waiting for a long time for a visa. Also it is not a process that you can do and no visa which will allow you to work whilst waiting

yup, i am not planning to do the "bad process"

im not planning to jump ahead of others too who have been waiting.

i should wait too.

maybe with a tourist visa, i can look for hospitals who can sponsor me and come back to my home country and wait.

hope there will be available visas.

but "if" there are available visas, do you know how long does green card take?

What we are trying to tell you is that there is no reason to go to the US to look for an employer. They do not need to meet you in person, all can be done via phone and computer.

Right now, any that are coming to the US to look for an employer are not being well thought of, as it looks like they will not be leaving, and that they are coming for only one thing. Especially from your country.

Listen to what we are telling you. You can interview right in your country, it is not any easier if you come over to the US, does not give you any advantage at all.

Hy,

I have a great news.We received the Visa Screen. Please tell me what's next. What it has to be done for obtaining the visa?

Thank you.

you need to find an employer who is willing to petition you start the process by filing I140. Currently you will be affected by retrogression but no reason why you do not start the process by finding an employer. Be aware that many at the moment are delaying employing foreign nurses who need petition due to the delays with retrogression

Thank you for your answer.

We have an employer, we have a contract with a hospital, and the form I140 is filled. We don't know when we will receive the visa.

retrogression (no visas) is currently in progress and no telling when you will get a visa. Has your I140 been approved or is it still with the service centre? At the moment there is nothing that can be done except wait

Suggest you have a read in the retrogression threads

The I-140 is only the first step in the process and is not under the retrogression. Everything beyond that is. The Visa Screen Certificate must be presented when you have your interview at the US Embassy, but that will be sometime down the road for you.

Once your I-140 is approved, they will send a visa bill to your attorney that will need to be paid and then you will get the DS-230 to be filled out and submitted and that needs to be approved as well.

As long as the retrogression is in place, they will not be sending out any bills.

I applied for VisaScreen since 2005, was asked to re submit license validation forms resently.Same done since April .It,s approaching 4 months since the resubmission and still my application is not updated on line ,it,s waiting for review. No certificate recieve.

At the time when I applied the application was valid for 2 years.

My concern is that my IELTS will expire August 25th 2007 and I am really not prepared for that expense again since it is not my fault the application is held that long .Everything was submitted months before expiry dates and I keep follow-up only to hear status is under review. How much longer do I have to wait and why? It,s real frustrating .

There is something that is not adding up here. Why has it taken this long for you to get the VSC? It means that there were issues with something that you submitted to them in the first place. Had you actually passed the CGFNS exam or the NCLEX-RN exam before you applied for the VSC?

It never takes two years to get approval, I suspect that it had to do with you taking the NLE last summer and having to do a retake. That is not the fault of CGFNS at all. When did you actually pass the needed nursing exam to be able to get that done?
